I have been shopping from hardware stores for a long time, mostly homeowner shopping due to small-medium remodels, repairs of all kinds. I normally avoid Home Depot (since I first visited them in 2005). Sometimes, I ended up finding myself in their store, it just happens despite my avoidance. First, expensive pricing for almost anything, once you enter the store you know there is a rip off and all items (except HD brands) are sold %10-20 above the market price. Their "we match any price" motto is a scheme that makes customers think that their prices are the cheapest illusion. Third (yes 3rd), their selection is poor, there are not many variations of goods. I came to this conclusion when I was shopping from Menard's in the Midwest. You put two stores side by side, and, say a special faucet part is absent in Home Depot, and there are even more selections in Menard's at a much lower price. Home Depot has not been changed on this over the years. Second, their customer service is literally bad. Maybe this is taken from a company training, those guys always act on the rude side. Not happy to take questions, if you can find one, since they do not like being visible to customers in the aisles. All the way from Midwest, East and here in the West Coast, the associates are very arrogant with a handful of exceptions. When I asked about an item which turned out to be not carried at all, I commented on Lowe's have it in stock, the associate by the kitchen aisles responded "then go and buy it from Lowe's" was a prompt confirmation of my thoughts on Home Depot. I took his kind words and did the business with Lowe's just to make that guy's day. Yet another instance, shopping for some wood planks, the damaged stack came to my attention and asked about the discount, then the employee said there was none, the price was the same. When I questioned on this very meaningful pricing policy, he said "go ask the manager". After finding the skinny bearded manager, he seemed even more upset and ignored me with some rumble words in this very Corona store. I understand they would not be as motivated to do business as Craig Menear but, at least, being good to customers always pays back in many ways...
As a result, when you put rip-off prices combined with limited selection plus bad customer service, I really keep on avoiding Home Depot and whenever I go inside, I look at the people shopping there and say myself "what could have brought all those...

Today was supposed to be an exciting day for my family. My wife, who owns a business, got approved for a Home Depot credit card and we were planning to make purchases for her shop. I went with her and our two sons, expecting a smooth experience. Unfortunately, it was far from that.
At first, a very kind associate helped us and honored a vacuum sale that had signage attached to the display. She even saved the receipt with the discount applied so we could continue shopping and come back later to finalize more purchases.
When we returned, the situation completely changed. The associate who originally helped us was gone, so we explained the receipt and discount to another cashier. Instead of listening, she threw our receipt in the trash and insisted there was no discount. We explained again, showed her the vacuum signage, and even found the original paper the first associate had used—but she dismissed it, called another worker over, and they both told us there was “no way” to honor it. One even said, “well, if you want to honor it, that’s on you,” then walked away.
Finally, the first associate who originally helped us came back, confirmed we were correct, and honored the discount. At that point, another worker jumped in, suggesting we had “already bought one” and continued being dismissive, which felt extremely disrespectful.
On top of this, when I asked another employee in the store for help finding an item, he acted like we were bothering him. No urgency, no customer service.
This entire situation was frustrating and unnecessary. We weren’t asking for free items or extra discounts—we simply expected the advertised promotion to be honored. Instead, we were met with disrespect, attitude, and indifference, all while my wife—managing our two toddlers and helping me while I’m in a wheelchair from a construction injury—remained calm and patient.
What disappointed me the most was the lack of kindness. It costs nothing to treat customers with respect. My wife and I both run our own businesses, and we would never allow our employees to treat people this way. This store needs better training, accountability, and basic...
Read moreI wanted to inform you of a very sleazy and devious practice this store is doing to customers.
I came in on 2/21/2019 to get a measurement, select carpet and get an estimate. The estimate process was fine and they used the measurement numbers I recommended. The quote was for 1008 sqft of carpet @ 2.29 p/sq ft and .89 for nike padding. This amounted to 3205.44. Fine.
When the measurements were completed and the flooring quote was sent out to me I got this:
This is a classic bait and switch !!! *
I do not do business with people that play tricks like this with measurements using different units, leaving out fees or taxes and do not properly add up the cost of materials. I think this is downright wrong and will be reporting it to the better business bureau and taking the time to comment on yelp, google places and anywhere else I can post.
I think you are preying on people and taking advantage of them and it is sinister.
What’s more, I’m sure the store, management and corporate care nothing that this is going on and just want to squeeze every customer financially in any devious way they can. I...
