Downtown Crystal Lake is always the highlight of our visit when we're in town to see family. Our kids love stopping into Marvin's to see what's new and our family is a big on shopping local. After this last experience, we will not be stopping at Marvin's again. My children and I walked to Marvin's while my wife was at her brother's graduation. My son is in 3rd grade and all about the "Fidget Spinner" trend. I gave the kids an opportunity to pick out a toy from the store and Gavin picked out a very cool spinner with LED lights. I paid for the spinner, and another toy for my daughter, and we made our way out of the store. At the next store my son noticed that one of the LED lights was no longer lighting up on his new spinner. After paying $15.99 (for a spinner I could've bought on Amazon for $8) I was hoping that he would have at least tested the spinners to make sure they worked before walking out. But he's 9. And I didn't think about it. So back to Marvin's we went hoping to exchange our spinner for one that worked. When I walked in I asked to see the manager. I explained the situation and was very cordial. I told her we'd like a replacement and instead of being nice about it -- she was very rude. Which was surprising. We've always had good experiences. Instead of exchanging out the device she popped out one of the LEDs and put a new one in. She then asked me for my receipt and CIRCLED the bottom where it said that "all sales are FINAL on spinners and no returns would be accepted". So, clearly, they know they are junk. We walked out of the store and that one broke too. Feeling completely deflated I decided there was no point in going back to ask for a new one. Before writing this review, I emailed Marvin's explaining my bad experience hoping for an apology at the very least. It's been over a week now, and still nothing from them. Talk about terrible customer service.
I may be out $15.99 but Marvin's is out a family of local shoppers. I'll stick to Amazon...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited Marvins toy store today in Crystal Lake which is 35 minute drive from where my family lives. Since toys r us closing itās hard to find good toys in person. Heard of Marvins Toys through word of mouth. My son had Xmas money burning a whole in his pocket and we were itching to take a road trip to get out of the house. As soon as we arrived we were surprised by the amount of stuff they actually had. And to my suprise they had 2 toys they my son absolutely wanted and havenāt seen. He loves the play Mobil stuff and BAM there it was. Me being a cheap skate I whipped out my smart phone to compare the price to Amazon and it was the same price. So with out anymore thought we made the purchase. Great store, staff was friendly and to prices where definitely competitive . Will be shopping there again. Thank you Marvins Toys for helping make my son Xmas experience a great one...
