After being told there was an onsite jeweler who can asist with repairs, I returned with 3 pieces that needed attention, but was told the jeweler only replaces batteries. The lovely woman at the counter went back to visit the jeweler and returned with an update.
I was quoted $150 to "replace a pin" in one broken bracelet; $60 to replace a silver clasp on another; and I was told that my watch could not be cleaned as it was a base metal. Now mind you, I've owned this watch for 30 years and have had it cleaned numerous times. When the woman at the counter took me back to the "jeweler's" studio, it was ostensibly so that he could assure me it could not be cleaned. However, when she said to him "would you like to tell her?", his response was "I dont want to tell her anything."
Shocked, I asked for my jewelery back. He told me he'd already replaced the battery and asked if he should remove it. The woman told him to leave it and she would not charge me.
The missing pin was not missing. The clerk in a different shop pointed out that it was still there and it only needed to be reshaped and bolstered with a little soddering.
The clasp issue was a super simple fix that would cost no more than $30.
And she took the watch and said "this will be beautiful again once he cleans it up."
I dont know if the "jeweler" here is an owner, but I figure he must be, as I cannot understand why else he would be employed. He is obviously not a jeweler, and does not want to do the work a jeweler does.
I tend to buy a few pieces of jewelery per year - and need repairs more often. I've also had custom pieces made and look forward to doing it again. I routinely need replacement opals and would like to find someone to help me source opals with a lot of fire. I've been looking for a place where I can do it all.
But I give up. It seems all the local stores outsource the repair work. I need to accept that I wont find a professional relationship like that here and will look elsewhere for my special needs. But for my purchases, I can assure you I will not be...
Read moreWent in on Christmas Eve just browsing because I was with someone who was purchasing jewelry. I ended up deciding to get a bracelet and was waiting to ask about the sale sign to see what all it applied to when it came to the Alex and Ani section. A woman named Jordan was working helping someone. The lady left and I moved over to talk to her and she moves to the other side to help two guys who had JUST walked into the store, mind you I’ve waited 10-15 min. So after 20 min I decided that I was just going to get the bracelet that was hanging on the display so I asked could I get it please. Her response “yeah all you do is pick it up and there you have it” I responded “ok just making sure there isn’t a protocol to these items, I don’t want to just take it, but thanks” So she just gives me a blank stare. I wasn’t sure if she boxed it or was supposed to ring me up so I just went to the front counter confused. At the front my item was boxed by a nice gentleman (no name tag and name wasn’t on the receipt), matter of fact everyone on the register was pleasant and gift wrapping, smiling etc. I don’t normally pull the “race card” and I’m the most nonchalant person ever, I don’t care half the time about stuff like this but it really rubbed me the wrong way due to the “color of...
Read moreWe brought in damaged rings and asked to have them melted down and recast together in a new, custom wedding band. We also had a stone changed out in the setting of another ring which was supposed to have an inscription added to the inside of the band. The ring was also going to be resized.
The resized ring was loose and the inscription was not done. We elected to have the inscription be put into the custom band. The custom band was a mess. It was given to us with a nick in it which had to be fixed. The band had other scratches on it as well and it was not stamped with the karat weight of the gold. The “e” in the inscription was also mis-stamped. The band is lopsided and doesn’t sit flush to the other ring. I was also told that I could have the mold of the custom band which I paid for but upon pickup I was told that there was no mold used in the casting of the band.
On top of this, when I returned to pick up the band after pointing out the nick and I was shown the band very quickly with no chance to even inspect it myself and wished a good day.
I’m very frustrated and disappointed because of the amount of money spent on this project and now we are going to have to plan and save again so we can find another jeweler who will do...
