Wow. I didnāt know that in order to shop or be a customer at this store, I needed to have a Green Card. Iāve been coming here for about two years, and in the past few months Iāve felt a strong sense of discrimination, simply for being Hispanic or Latino.
Iāve had two bad experiences: The first was hearing employees speak in a disrespectful way about Latin Americans, based on what is happening in the country right now. The second was today, in August (the date of this post), when an employee at Lunardi approached me with a question disguised as a job offer. The very first thing he said was: āDo you have a Green Card?ā. My response was: āFor what?ā. Seeing my frustration, he replied: āBecause weāre hiring.ā
I can understand the excuse, but this is not the right way to approach someone. Why was the very first question about my immigration status? Just because of the way I look? Thatās not a proper way to offer a job, nor to treat a customer.
This is disappointing and a clear red flag. Starting today, I will never return to this store again. And to all my Latino community reading this: be warned, I do not recommend this place. It seems that some employees are taking liberties that donāt belong to them, and that could cause serious problems for our community.
I say this loud and clear: this is reality. Iām sorry if my words offend anyone, but staying silent would only allow it to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBig, spacious, clean, staff is well-versed with customer service. For some, this store is pricey, but when you sell high quality goods with knowledgable staff (the butchers are amazing cooks) and great service, it definitely comes with a price, Lunardi's is famous for their extensive fresh produce, seafood and meat selections. Being an Italian-owned, they have a great deli (they carry San Francisco's Molinari and Sons' salami and coppa product line) and do carry Italian dry goods (canned tomatoes, pastas, etc). My two favorite items sold here are their seasonal fresh, ripe strawberries sold by the basket and their housemade marinated Hawaiian Short Ribs. When strawberry season starts, I make a beeline to this market. The smell is intoxicating. As when the weather gets warmer and the Grilling Season begins, I could easily purchase their marinated Hawaiian Short Ribs and have this grilled weekly for dinner. They are one of the few stores (Sprouts in Dublin, Whole Foods in San Ramon) that will credit you back 5 cents per bag if you bring...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really love this store. It's definitely higher priced than most of the stores I frequent, but that is largely due to the specialty services they provide. Such as a real true butcher department. And let me say the folkes working behind the counter in the butcher department go out of their way to take care of you. Their produce department is very nicely set up and draws you to it by how fresh and appealing the produce looks. They also have a very tempting hot food department with readymade food options. Their bakery is very hard to resist too. There is so much to choose from. There are plenty of grab and go sweet treats to choose from as well. But there bakery case is beyond tempting. They have cakes, cupcakes, brownies, pastries, cookies, pies, and a few other delicious, tempting treats. If you haven't been there yet, definitely check them out, I think you'll enjoy the different departments I've mentioned. The rest of the grocery aisles are much like...
