Most of the staff are very pleasant and try to be helpful, yet it is clear that unless you are lucky enough to catch someone that has a particular pet of their own, there is little to no specific training for the employees. In a niche store like this, I believe expertise is as important, more even, than price or friendliness. When I was there there were 2 birds that were clearly in distress. The first time I stopped in noone there knew what to do to help them. I spent over an hour just calming the birds and showing them some love and comfort. I went back the next day and this time one of the employees seemed to have a better understanding of the birds. One appeared to be doing better while the other one still needed some attention. I offered to foster the birds, or even purchase them at a reduced rate but as they were priced at $400.00 +, I just could not afford to buy sick or depressed birds at that price. There is, according to the employees, no alternative to someone just paying the exceedingly high price they charge. Apparently it is corporate policy that they rather the animals suffer or even die instead of losing money? I have a neighbor and friend whom I shared this with that day and fortunately she was able to go back with me and purchase the bird that was still under the weather. She has the time to spend giving the bird the constant attention it needs. As I have several hand-raised birds already, I am thankful she was willing to care for this beautiful baby. Otherwise I probably would have had to! Completely sickened by the corporate attitude that these living, trusting creatures have no greater value than money!
Update. David from Corporate Customer Service did reach out to me in response to this posting. He explained the training and protocol procedures to me. He was certain that this unfortunate event was not indicative of the company policies. David also assured me that the incident would be escalated and handled. Though I expressed no desire for monetary compensation, he took it upon himself to credit $15.00 to my rewards card. David's personal interaction has served to lesson my distaste for...
Read moreI placed an order for pickup at Pet Supermarket, 1235 Providence Blvd Deltona, FI. I received an email stating my order was ready. A few hours later 1 placed a second order. To give the store time to process the second order, I waited a few hours later to pick both orders at the same time. So when I went to the front desk to pick up my order, I told the associate I was there to pick up an order for (my name). I immediately told the clerk I should have 2 orders. With my orders in hand, I was asked to identify the purchase. Without a blink of an eye I said 2 bags of pill pockets and a bottle of dog aspirin for pain. My response was precise for a very simple order of 3 items in 2 separate orders in 2 separate bags exactly as I ordered. Before handing me my perfectly described order, the associate asked for my ID! Wow! Seriously? I told the clerk it was in my car. She said I have to have it. Wow! As if a thief would come in somehow knowing an order was placed in my name, paid for an order in my name, and then precisely identified the contents..but yet, I need to show my DL before I can get my purchase. I have NOT been inside a store in 3 years. Everything I buy is ordered online, delivered or pickup/curb service. This is the first time in 3 years I have been asked to provide my ID. Actually I have never been asked to identify the contents of a pickup order. After saying all this, I want to express my concern for 2 reasons. First, if this is the policy of Pet Supermarket, it needs to be revisited. Secondly, I truly hope I was not put under such scrutiny because of any profile targeting or discriminatory reason. My rating is based on this experience...
Read moreCustomer service is very poor when you need help you have to hunt somebody down and literally asked them instead of them coming up to you and asking if you need anything which is very unprofessional.
Updated review to one year later. Figured I give them another chance but what a huge mistake! The manager Megan was very rude and unprofessional when asked about a particular fish in an order that they said they were getting in today. Only to have wasted my time because they didn't have it. Then she stated very rudly, if you want something you have to come through ME! Not anyone but ME! I don't even know who she is! It's not like her tag said Megan the manager. I have spent thousands in my five fish tanks. But never again will I spend one more penny in that place. They had a box of pizza on the counter so I guess I was being dismissed so they can eat. I was very polite but that didn't matter. She started a conversation with another co-worker while I was still in front of her. Very rude. They are not worth the time or effort of giving second or...
