If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is NOT the place. I am a person who is very easy to please but I can whole heartedly say the food here is a disgrace to Mexican culture!! I ordered a torta which was served on a regular keiser roll & tasteless “steak” Very low grade steak might I add (more like beef!) I also ordered 2 “seasoned pork” tacos. They were extremely small and tasted like they were just thrown together with whatever ingredients were cheapest to pass off as a taco. Regular shredded cheese, overly ripe tomatoes, the meat tasted as if it was prepared by someone who had no idea how to cook! not only was the service terrible (brought me the wrong food 3 times!!!!!) but the place was filthy! I was sitting in a booth with soda splatters on the wall, the floor had straw wrappers and crumbs everywhere, not to mention when I walked in, the place was hot and uncomfortable. All the heat from the kitchen was trapped inside the place. My friend ordered a torta as well with a chicharron taco, this had to be the thing that baffled me most about this whole experience..the chicharron was chewy!!! Although chicharron is in fact pork fat, it was not crispy AT ALL!!! Not one piece! How could you serve that to anyone and be okay with that!! After all of this, the waiter had the nerve to make me feel like I was I was being a hassle! Another thing that highly upset me was the fact that My 5 yr old sons order was placed in front of his face 2 times only to be taken from him because it was incorrect!! I was also told that the order was wrong because that’s what I asked for...LIES! No sorry. No consideration for the fact that he is a young child and is hungry. Nothing. But I did get dirty looks and gossiped about in the kitchen. Mind you, I’m always extremely respectful and courteous especially while dining out. All of this was just plain frustrating to say THE LEAST! I absolutely love supporting family owned businesses, I believe everyone should but the way I was treated and the way this food tasted was TERRIBLE. No pride in their establishment. No love in the food. I’m surprised they have stayed open for even a couple years. I came to this place once before on a whim and the food was disgusting then. Lacking my better judgement I decided to come in again..what a mistake. I will never be returning & I will be sure to spread the word about my experience here! If anyone is looking for AUTHENTIC DELICIOUS out of this world Mexican food, please visit Tierra caliente next to Izzys tires in Deland. It’s a little drive, but your taste buds will be highly...
Read moreI love lil holes in the wall, they tend to have the best food because they need to have return business and word of mouth to survive unlike the large stand alone restaurants. This one is no exception to that rule. You know you're going to get a good plate when the majority of customers speak the language of the establishment.
Lily was a one woman show up front managing counter, phone, take out and tables without skipping a beat. She was awesome. As we were leaving another server came in, I'm suspecting for the supper rush as we were there for a late lunch/early supper.
We had to order chips & salsa, they're not an automatic. The salsa has great flavor but was too watery in my opinion. Thankfully the table has its own roll of paper towels for all the drips. I adored the level of cilantro, if you're not a cilantro fan though steer clear.
My partner got the Fajitas Jalisciense which have all the meats (steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo). The flavor was spot on, nothing overcooked or dry, very impressive. The peppers were cut WAY TOO LARGE and the potato chunks totally threw us off as did them being served with softened corn tortillas not flour as normal. They were good though, a huge serving and leftovers were taken
I got the enchiladas with red sauce. They were very good. The rice and beans were great too. They offered 2 house made hot sauces, a red and a green, neither had any heat but the flavor of the red was really good. The green was odd but I can't pinpoint the issue my tongue had with it, it was "bland ".
All in all though, good experience and we'll...
Read moreI'm SO SORRY this is so long!! But... I've been SEARCHING for an authentic taco joint in the Deltona area. The name sounded quite legit in the search so I went there. It is decorated in a quaint Spanish decor (2pts). I did take out and my fairly simple order took about 20 minutes (bummed me out watching others come and go but perhaps they'd ordered in advance. I waited outside in my car). This is key because prior to finally getting my order I noticed on the menu that you are offered a basket of chips and salsa complimentary; after that the price is $3.00. So I asked if I too could get some and he wanted to charge me $3.00. "Wait; it says complimentary?" I inquire. "Only if you eat in," he said. Hmmm... I say, "so I just spent $25.00 on my food plus a $5.00 tip and THAT doesn't qualify me for some?" Apparently not. The food was decent, plentiful; a few mistakes to what I SPECIFICALLY ordered and repeated 3x but edible. Had it not been for the fact the chips weren't thrown I'd probably go back. His attitude over it just left a burr in my side so I'll...
