Revised Dec '20) I don't love doing this. I understand Covid is affecting businesses, as much as individuals. But, I've had to open a claim and cancel my card to avoid charges, so here we are. In March I was charged for membership dues and the gym closed down due to restrictions one day later. I called several times and then sent two emails. Kelly responded the next day (which is a fast response due to the circumstances IMO) but when I asked about a refund for members, I was told that I would be given 50% off for the next months dues. Alternately, I could freeze my account for 3 months (I was on a month to month membership) for $25, which is half off the normal cost. This was not an appropriate response under the circumstances. I responded rather emotionally about the fact I was a freelance contract worker, and did not qualify for traditional unemployment. Being charged for something I couldn't use was the equivalent of throwing money into the ether. We came to an understanding that I would not be charged for April, and my next dues would be charged in May. Ok. Deep breath. I began calling the facility prior to the reopening to request a membership cancellation. I also emailed asking about my membership. I did not receive a call or email back. Since the gym reopened, I've called, and even stopped by twice (they were closed both times, I guess due to limited hours). I have now been charged for July through November , plus a $20 membership fee. I was told by another member that they were not charged until July either, so June does not count toward the agreement we came to regarding April. So, this is 5 months of charges, plus a month that should have been refunded and a membership fee. Life has been hectic for all of us. Maybe I should have been more aggressive. I would see the charge, call or stop by, get distracted and not think about it until the following month. But really, why should this be necessary? I don't think the owners are trying to take advantage of anyone. I cannot imagine how stressful owning a business is during the pandemic. But, I still should not have been charged for something I repeatedly attempted to cancel, and did not use once since my initial communication in March. I am seriously so disappointed. I loved this little gym, and now I will never be able to go back.
( Revised Aug '19) I belonged to this gym for a few years before a move out of state and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The equipment, boutique feel and general vibe set a high bar for any gyms i might join in the future. After a not so great membership to Golds in Virginia, I came back to DG&F as soon as I moved back to Denver. The gym has new ownership and management but still feels the same. In fact, I'd say even better as the space has been reaaranged in a way that feels more open and accommodating for handstands, stretching ect. I would highly recommended this gym (but not to too many people as I'd like to continue not waiting for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI first joined Denver Gym & Fitness looking to train with their personal trainer program. I am a small business owner and I really needed help with getting a routine down and finding ways to fit in regular exercise with my work schedule. I know how important regular exercise is but really had no idea where to start and I didnāt have specific fitness goals in mind. I just knew that I wanted to feel better and that I needed help doing it. I have now been with a trainer for a few years now and I canāt begin to tell you how positively the gym and their training program has impacted my life. Training with Fitness Director, Stephanie Bormuth, I have learned so much. Stephanie and the other trainers and staff have been knowledge able and helpful, making me feel comfortable every step of the way. We were able to find what my goals are through a variety of workouts and excellent communication. Not only does Steph have me on a solid training program that has me reaching my fitness goals, but she also created a simple comprehensive meal plan that has helped life outside the gym and has me feeling better. The staff made me feel so comfortable that soon I was coming in on my own and participating in their fitness class which are free for members. With Stephanie and the teamās knowledge, I have better learned the āwork/lifeā balance and have been able to prioritize being healthy and feeling good. Too often my health was the first thing I put on the backburner when life got stressful. Denver Gym & Fitness has become a place where I can de-stress, focus on what makes me feel good and get organized. Joining DGF and working with a trainer has been so beneficial in that it really has helped me in so many other aspects of my life, not just working out. Aside from the physical results of my training program, being a member has helped with my mental health and focus and has really become something that I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've belonged to this gym for 10 years now and have continued my membership even when it's made for a bit of a longer commute because I really do think it's a great facility, although some issues are beginning to creep up. On the positive side, the equipment is always in good condition, everything is always clean, and I've appreciated that they always have a variety of non-traditional resources that I can use to support PT work on my shoulders. Additionally, the employees are always friendly and, relatively speaking, this place doesn't feel like as much of an ultra-bro toolbag fest as your standard 24 hr Fitness. One area that really needs to be addressed is the lack of a clear circuit policy. This place has definitely gotten busier, as it should because it's a quality gym, but it's also not a large facility and therefore can't sustain multiple individuals running circuits through the equipment, particularly during busier times. Over the past few weeks, it's been frustrating to watch multiple instances in which someone takes over one of the few flat benches, the one leg press station, or the one squat rack, then proceeds to leave their belongings and essentially "own" that area for 20+ minutes despite only intermittently using it as part of a circuit. Given the current COVID context, it's not as if working in with someone on a bench is an option, so this chronic lack of consideration and they gym's failure to address it is especially frustrating. I hope this is considered a bit more carefully, as it would be a shame to see this excellent facility degrade into a facsimile just another...
