Tldr; Beyond Light Show is part of the CHURCH OF CANNABIS, never mentioned elsewhere online. Light show is equivalent to a cheap EDM concert at the Fox or a dorm room show from someone learning visuals. VIP bags are weed themed, not light show themed. Not as clean as we would have hoped.
Very disappointed in both the light show and the 'vip' experience, and "beyond" disappointed that Beyond Light Show has distanced itself from the international Church of Cannabis in the digital world, while being a core part of the church in the real world. I don't care that they are together, I'd even planned to visit the church prior to this experience, I care that Beyond is hiding that major aspect of the experience until you are physically present.
The venue downstairs is a little dingy and most surfaces had a slight stickiness to them. The pews upstairs you watch from and the pillows were a little better though and looked clean.
The light show itself reuses visuals multiple times in a 40 performance, making it more like a 20-25 minute experience you partially repeat. There is only one projection mapped sequence to 2001 a space Odyssey, the rest are random visuals projected across the church walls like they were whiteboards. Cuts between songs and visuals are random, not synced to music. As an example, the visuals they ask you to share on social media at the end of the show such as the matrix dots and zebra stripes are seen at least 3 additional times during the 40 minutes.
The light show is also interrupted multiple times by sudden jarring cuts from music to quotes presumably provided by random Church members, which greatly detracted from the experience. This is posed as a guided meditation experience, but the speaking portions directly detracted from my ability to meditate on the experience.
Finally the VIP gift bags are 100% Church of Cannabis themed, entirely unrelated to the Beyond Light Show. If I wanted pot stickers and a grinder, I'd go to a dispensary.
Ultimately i feel very disappointed, and scammed by the VIP tickets after my time here. I'd highly recommend the curators spend some time talking/working with visual artists from any concert hall. Simply adding enough visuals to be unique through the performance and syncing transitions to the music would do wonders for the show. Right now this is something I'd expect to see projected from a dorm, not something marketed as a...
Read moreBeautiful, affordable, and fun. So much to see. We sat in the hand chairs during the light show. I had a big flower pillow on me and it felt like a weighted blanket. I could spin around in the chair to easily look where I wanted to. You can sit in pews and/or lay down on the pews. The show was the perfect volume for me because I don't like stuff to be too loud. You can go sober and it's still great. You can watch the show multiple times in one day. Parking is easy to find and free. The second floor isn't wheelchair accessible as far as I know and that's where the light show is. The garden had nice art but the seats needed to be cleaned off. I just got a paper towel from the bathroom to clean my chair. Mario Kart is projected onto the wall. I enjoyed playing Centipede, Ms. Pacman, and table tennis. They have merch, snacks, art, and smoking accessories for sale. The church services are smoking friendly but they're different from the light show times. They want the light shows to be kid friendly and they are. We paid for the swag bag (nothing too exciting but I do love stickers and they have some) and the good seating but the place wasn't very full so we didn't need to. I'd only recommend paying extra to support the church.
Conveniently located (a very short walk down the street) by a vegan-friendly and delicious place called Fire on...
Read moreThis is a REALLY cool retro place. The girl working the door today was not especially excited to be interrupted while reading her book or to have to speak to strangers. She didn't explain things very well, so we just got admission to the "lobby" for $15. So retro!!! It was like stepping back into 1980. Lots of games from handheld to working video games like Ms. Pacman. There is a place to purchase snacks and drinks and a nice outdoor courtyard, and the sun was wonderful! We were disappointed that we weren't allowed to wander anywhere else, though. So, unless you're going in to smoke or hang and play games or watch a movie, you probably want to skip this as it is a little expensive. Guidance needs to be added to the reviews so people know what to expect as we had questions from people outside wanting more info. They might consider doing a guided or self tour for those that are just curious and only have time for something small rather than...
