I had an extremely disappointing experience in this morning’s yoga class. As someone who is pregnant, I came in expecting a supportive and welcoming environment, but instead, the instructor was repeatedly disrespectful and made me deeply uncomfortable.
From the beginning, Deb made a big deal about my modifications, rather than simply allowing me to practice in a way that felt safe for my body. Instead of offering support, they made inappropriate comments and even asked if I was “one week pregnant.” Throughout the class, she continued to single me out, repeatedly bringing up my pregnancy in a way that felt intrusive and unnecessary.
The most upsetting moment was when they told me to “lift the corners of my mouth” because I had been “frowning the entire class and it’s bad for the baby.” When I didn’t respond—because I was shocked—she pressed me further, asking if I had heard them.
