I visited Worn, La Mie and The Cheese Shop. The employees and many of the customers were passive-aggressively rude. I walked into Worn, it having been recommended to me and having been to their other location. I was not greeted when I came in the door or the rest of the time I was there. I didn’t know until they told someone else after I had been there ten minutes and was done shopping that there were treats and mimosas. And even when the employee told the other woman, I was standing very near the employee and near the table with said treats and mimosas and she never directed her attention or comments to me. I checked out and the woman checking me out did not say a single word to me. I moved on to La Mie. I picked up two loaves of bread and a can of San Pel. I moved to the checkout line. The man who checked me out was short and, as I was trying to put my wallet away so I could pick up my purchases from the counter, he moved my can of San Pel over so he could help the next person (there was not a line behind her so the only person waiting the extra seconds for me to gather my belongs was that woman) and the area to check out was tiny so I had to clumsily scoop up my things and carrying them to another counter to get situated. I moved on to The Cheese Shop. There was a man in there ordering and the man behind the counter was helping him. There was a woman waiting for the man behind the counter who literally looked down her nose at me when I came in. I stood around for a bit and decided I had had enough of the snobbery and left. I also noticed that the smoothie shop had a sign that only Roosevelt students who were actually buying drinks were allowed in. There is a city high school across the street and clearly that manager/owner didn’t want those type of students in his establishment. Otherwise, wouldn’t the sign say, people under 18 or 16, and apply to all student-age people, not just kids from that particular high school. Sometimes (but not intentionally this time), I actually wear what I was wearing today (black capris, a red sweatshirt, and ball cap with no makeup) to see how store employees and people, in general, treat me. It was raining off and on that day so the top of my ponytail was frizzy as was the hair on my temples (because that’s what my hair does when it gets wet). I suppose I didn’t look all put together but I certainly didn’t look like I couldn’t afford to shop in there shops, at least I didn’t think so. But for “whatever” reason, these shop owners/employees had a certain idea of who should be in their shops, and...
Read moreI always get my hair cut at the barber shop here. There are usually four barbers, so it doesn't take long even though they don't take appointments. The owner keeps track of who is up next (although some patrons wait for their favorite barber). The Roosevelt Barber shop now requires an appointment. They have a website that allows the patrons to make their appointments online. It's even more convenient to get your...
Read moreVery convenient place. Nice to have a liquor store like this close to the apartment. Good selection of beer and liquor. They do not open till noon on a Sunday. I believe that's because R call can't be sold in Kansas before noon. Which seems freaking ridiculous. Staff is helpful and friendly. And joy shopping in this place for some beers on a...
