I have mixed feelings about the Dexter Cider Mill. First, they are a locally owned family business. The cider and other treats are delicious. You can even watch them pressing and bottling cider. The historic building and grounds are beautiful. There's nothing like sipping cider by the Huron River. Now for the downsides. It's always, always packed on weekends. There's not a lot of parking and that can be a challenge. There's always a line out the door to get the goodies. They only accept cash. I understand and respect that, but in this day and age we don't carry a lot of cash and when we went last time, we didn't have enough to buy what we wanted, so we bought less. They have an ATM on site but we don't use ATMs that don't belong to our bank due to fees. There is a nice sitting area in the back by the river with gorgeous views. But having so many people milling about, especially young people dropping f-bombs around our kids, kind of takes the enjoyment away. There are also a ton of wasps in late summer, so watch out! There are port a potties in case you need to use them, which is a nice thing to offer. Overall, this is a wonderful business to have in the Dexter community, but the downsides mentioned make us less interested...
Read moreOn Saturday, September 20, 2025, Me and my fiancee Renay met with Kathie and her husband John of Michigan Citizens for Justice, here. It was Me and Renay's first time here. It was a pleasantly surprising atmosphere. It was a beautiful and perfect autumn day. The temperature was great, not too hot, not too cold, just right! Just like the porridge in Goldilocks and the Three Bears, lol. And the Apple Cider that we all had was just as great. So much so it puts me in the mind of another well known fictional character phrase, magically delicious! The lady at the cashier whose name fails me now, (pardon me) was as sweet as the cinnamon sugar doughnuts that we bought as well. The seating area outside had a nice closeup view of a creek where people were kiaking, and able to pull up to land that led to a path to the seating area and Cider Mill. I recommend visiting this place at least once. I didn't see any indoor seating and beware of the honey bees, because they like the sweet cider as well. The parking lot is not large or have designated lined parking spaces so you might have to park on the street if it's a busy day, but I think it's...
Read moreI recently visited Dexter Cider Mill and had an absolutely delightful experience. The atmosphere was charming and rustic, evoking the perfect autumnal mood. From the moment I stepped in, the aroma of fresh apples and cinnamon filled the air, creating an instant feeling of warmth and nostalgia.
The cider itself was exceptional—fresh, crisp, and perfectly balanced. Paired with their house-made doughnuts, it was a treat that took me back to the simpler times of fall outings as a kid. The doughnuts were fresh, fluffy, and had just the right amount of sweetness to complement the cider.
The staff were incredibly friendly and informative. It's evident that they take great pride in what they do, and it shows in the quality of their products.
The entire experience felt like a celebration of fall, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend a weekend afternoon.
The only deterrent for our group was the large amount of bees - they were friendly enough to hang out with us and partake in some cider and donuts.
Four stars for Dexter Cider Mill—I can't wait to return for another quintessential...
