Hackney Ace Hardware — Local services in Dexter

Staff is great ... but store management exercises a return policy that is not consistent with the Ace Hardware franchise. They do not accept returns ( I had the receipt) for Ace Hardware products bought at other stores that they do not carry in stock. I called the Ace Hardware 800# and asked about this since there is no mention of such a restriction on any Ace Hardware receipts I have and there is no sign posted at check announcing this “restriction “, from any Ace Hardware. I was told by main office Ace Hardware that Hackney was supposed to accept the return with receipt regardless of their stock, and that the item would be returned/shipped back to the Ace Hardware warehouse. Let me repeat again...the staff is great at Hackney, and maybe this “policy” is exercised elsewhere, but this undisclosed “policy” exercised by management at Hackney runs contrary to Ace Hardware!s return policy as was confirmed by Ace...

This is a great hardware store - the kind every town should have. Very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful folks. If they don’t have what you’re looking for they’ll know who does. I’m a big time DIYer, and maker of many things. This store has kept a project going or bailed me out when I was short that one part I needed. But they also have a gift side of their store that my wife absolutely loves - the only hardware store she loves to visit. And she takes her friends from out of town to shop there. Unusual kitchen products, nice selection of one of a kind gifts, unique mugs and toys. Worth a visit in this quaint...

We've been shopping here since we moved to Dexter 10 years ago. My husband likes to get tools and hardware here and support a local business. I stopped in today for a terracotta pot and was impressed with the potting supplies. They have more stock than the big box stores in terms of different types of potting mixes and amendments. Their pots are mostly terracotta or plastic, and that should suit almost everyone. Their customer service is really what keeps us coming back.
