We visited for the speakeasy experience this past weekend and had an absolute blast. We were a group of four and didn’t know what to expect. It was so well organized, a kind and welcoming crowd, and very well staffed. There were puzzles and riddles, and lots of things to see and do to keep people engaged in between the beverage tastings. I imagine most of the folks who put the event on are volunteers, and you can tell they deeply care about the history, buildings and grounds. There’s so much to see here and we can’t go wait to return for the cherry bounce festival. The history is interesting and the buildings are well maintained and beautiful. Above all else, a hilariously fun evening learning about history through booze. It was money well spent! The drinks were plentiful and delicious and the music was entertaining. We also won the costume contest and received a wonderful prize. Who would’ve thought such a gem could be found...

Dill's Tavern and Plantation (and the Maple Shade Barn, which is included in the admission) is open from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday afternoons, April through November. You can tour the original tavern and the later additions to the tavern, as well as the Wheelwright's Shop; see the Plantation Garden, check out the Squirrel-Tail Oven and the tobacco drying in the woodshed. Observe the newest building in the works being re-constructed on the property - a 200 year old log barn. Then head up the street a little way to visit the Maple Shade Barn and its museum, archives and gift shop.

The Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society operates both sites and welcomes the public to take a "hands-on" approach to their visits. You may touch, learn and enjoy! A small admisssion fee...

Return of the Celtic Festival! We were so happy to be back here after a year off. A Friday night concert was added for 2021. Everyone seemed to be having a good time in spite of the cold wind.

Saturday was still chilly, but people were having fun. Admission was limited and masks were requested. Most of the public complied. No dance schools this year, but plenty of live music. The vendors were mostly local artists with a few import shops. All vendors fit the festival theme with quality goods.

Two food trucks provided festival food. The Tavern kitchen served Corned Beef & Cabbage, a Guiness stew, and other Irish fare. I tried the Tavern plates and...

Murrey making flip in the Eichelberger Distillery The Flip was popular from the late 17th century until the 19th century. George Washington was known to enjoy it, and many taverns had their own recipe. The drink's name comes from the back-and-forth pouring, which blends the ingredients together. The hot iron poker, called a flipdog, hottle, or toddy rod, is what gives the drink its signature foamy, frothy texture and slightly bitter taste. #Tavern #Georgewashington #Pennsylvania #history
