In some ways, Hannaford has always been a better option than competing supermarkets (fresher produce, wider aisles, reasonably priced dairy and frozen vegetables, etcetera), but on my last visit, I had a bad experience. I was with someone who doesn't normally choose Hannaford, someone I'm always telling Hannaford is the best supermarket. We were both embarrassed and annoyed when we went to the express checkout by customer service, where there was a clerk working, and where the aisle light was turned on... and (1) we weren't greeted or acknowledged in any way as we loaded our items onto the belt, (2) our fewer-than-14 items sat on the belt for several minutes when the clerk started to chat it up with someone she knew who was passing by, (3) when the friend of the clerk asked for change for a couple twenties, we were still completely ignored so that the clerk could get change for her friend, (4) when we loaded our basket back up with all our items after standing there and being ignored completely, the clerk still didn't acknowledge us or try to stop us from leaving to find another checkout option, and (5) when we turned around after using self-checkout, the clerk was still talking to her friend in the customer service line. Middle-aged woman, absolutely old enough to know better. Think her tag said Lisa. Literally not one word to us in maybe 5 minutes of us standing there. I would leave 1 star for this experience but not all are this bad, obviously, or it wouldn't be my preferred grocery store. But there have been lots of little things lately so I finally had to...
Read moreI have been shopping at the Hannaford's in Dover New Hampshire for decades now. Having visited all the other shopping centers in the area I continually return here for my weekly shopping trips as I find them to be the best around. Consistently they have the best prices, best produce, good selection, very helpful staff... And I happen to like having the "natural" products all together in the same area! LOL It's very convenient.
The one negative point on the store, at least it bothers me, is inventory. For example, they will have a product just long enough for you to get used to buying it and then they stop carrying it. They also have trouble keeping their usual items stocked.
When this started happening a few years ago, I was told that it was because the store didn't do their own ordering any longer, the main office does the order. I wish they would go back to how they previously ordered their products because that was when they were at their best.
Overall Hannaford's on Central Avenue in Dover NH, has the most consistent good ratings of the shopping choices in this area. I see myself continuing to do our weekly grocery shopping at this store for a long...
Read moreI love the store as it is stocked with fresh meat, vegetables, and fruits along with plenty of groceries in the middle aisles, the lobster tank in the Somersworth NH location is THE cleanest that I have ever seen anywhere in my 61 years of life. Big Kudos to the woman who cleans it. I have been buying lately steak tips that are pre-seasoned with either sliced potatoes or asparagus, pre-seasoned chicken thighs, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Great price, fresh and delicious, and I don't have to worry about separating the meat to go into the freezer, and the package comes with cooking instructions. Some things are priced higher than other stores, but I just view it as paying for quality food. The only thing that I can't figure out and it's probably me is how their savings program works as far as what's on sale. Are there coupons to clip like other stores, etc? I just entered my phone number at the register and hope for the best. I do shop in the store a few times a week, and my savings via my receipts are not much. I don't know what I'm missing, and since they took out the customer service desk, I am hard pressed to find someone to...
