Downey First Christian Church — Local services in Downey

I’ve attended this church a few times for services and also for their food pantry. On their website, it states that the pantry closes at 11:30 AM. However, when I brought two individuals in need of food and arrived at 11:07 AM, we were told by a representative around 11:15 AM that the pantry actually closes at 11:00 AM.

We asked if they could accommodate us since we had driven a long distance, but the representative declined, which is understandable. I then politely suggested they update their hours online to prevent others—especially those who may already be struggling—from making an unnecessary trip and wasting gas. The representative responded in a condescending tone, stating that it’s free food and they “don’t owe us anything.” This comment felt unnecessary and unaligned with the conversation, but she seemed intent on expressing it.

Unfortunately, I’ve noticed similar attitudes from other individuals at this church - they look down on people in need. While some may argue this isn’t possible, it’s important to note that many churches receive government funding to operate food pantries, and these services can also serve as a way to generate...

Not sure what ia going on nowadays. I'm not sure what exactly I expected from DFC & Pastor Josh, but after this past weeks assassination of Charlie Kirk, I kind of expected some sort of message regarding this horrible incident. No need for political references, but there were some of us who really could have used guidance and understanding. By not mentioning anything, leaves me uneasy about where this church sits in this world. For some that might have attended service for the 1st time might have because of what transpired. I for instance, have not been baptized with DFC, because I have never truly trusted churches. I am a true believer in Jesus & the Word. Without being political, what happened with Charlie Kirk was wrong, and we must come together to weed out the evil that exists in this world. Instead of being bold and condemning the assassination, DFC chose to be quiet. Thou shall not...
