Os-car's Auto Repair — Local services in Durham

I happened to take my car in to OsCar's without really planning on it. I was in the area for a different reason and happened to mention to somebody about a light on my dash that I was going to have to get looked at some point. They recommended OsCar's which was around the corner and so I went in on a Friday at 5.30 pm for an estimate, with no real intention to get it fixed right away. My very first impression itself was extremely positive as the person at the counter happily stepped out to scan the code on my car, instead of looking at his watch and asking me to make an appointment, which is what you imagine most places would do. Couple of mins later, he had scanned the code, explained what was wrong, what my options were, how much the part would cost, where I could get the part myself and how much he would charge to have it put in. That's it! I could tell right away that I was dealing with someone who knew what he was talking about and was being straight and honest about what it would cost. I ordered the part and returned a couple of days later when Ramon (different person from Friday) was at the desk. He was super courteous and nice and I had to explain very little to him about my previous interaction with them. 30 mins later, car is ready, part put in perfectly. Great job, fair price, delightful experience. I even decided to get my State Inspection done right there, seeing how easy they were to work with, compared to all the other places around. They will be my go-to guys whenever I need any...

beware of this repair shop. I had them do a repair on my air condition. I paid 300 to have them install 2 shredder valves on the high and low lines and dye test. The Freon last a month in a half. I call the repair shop to tell them that the Freon has leaked out and car was blowing hot air. They tell me to bring car in so, they can do another die test. I am not sure if they even did die test . I get call from the shop and they tell me I need a new ac compressor and to do the work it will cost me $800. I don't believe they diagnose the car correctly the first time. If they did they would had notice die from ac compressor the first time and that what makes believe that they didn't repair my car correctly the first time. choose wisely people they will not honor there repairs. I would find another shop to go too...

I have sent several people here who were looking an honest mechanic in the area. I grew up in a family-owned mechanic shop and this is how you should run a business - honest, helpful, and friendly. They have treated every person I have sent well, have done the opposite of scamming them (other shops quoting work that's not needed, this shop telling the customer what they actually need, etc.) Have sent a young girl freaking out about her brake light with a $2000 quote from another shop, this shop chose not to prey on her and the bill was under $300. (And, they did everything exactly how I would have.) I'd like to personally thank the mechanics here for keeping an honest buisness. You fix the reputation so many mechanics...
