I have been a member of 24 hours UTC and Balboa and I am VER Happy, but I cannot say the same about 24 hours El Cajon. I am Terrible disappointed and here are the reasons why:
Entrance is presentable but they limit the towels to customers. If you wait to get one, you will receive one that is gray if you are lucky or dark grey. People in the entrance are not friendly most of the time. Bikes area: you can see people sweeting without using the towel and their sweet is all over the machines and the floor. It seems that the cleaning personal maybe cleans once a month because the sweet is marked on the floor for days. Exercise equipment: weights and other small pieces of equipment is all over the floor. If you want to use one machine, you have to remove 5 o 6 heavy pieces to access the machine. Trainers area: A lot of the equipment they use is on the floor and dirty. Showers: They NEVER clean the walls, the glass doors or small glass section that it is separating the water from the shower. You can see all the soap and hair on the walls. Pool: The plastic floating dividers on the pool are really dirty. One can see in addition to the color white and blue the black from dirt in the whole lines. There is not sign asking people not to spit outside the pool and frequently you see people spiting on the perimeter of the pool outside. Sauna (dry or wet) do not have a sign asking people to remove their shoes when using the sauna (as in UTC) and the wood section for seating and around the walls of the sauna are BLACK. You see people putting their feet on the wall and all the dirt is there. If you want to seat on the bench you have to take a towel. I don't see very often the cleaning personal. When they are there the only thing they clean is the floor, but I NEVER have seen cleaning personal cleaning the sweet from the machines or floor as in the gyms I mentioned above. One day I request to talk with the manager and they told me he was not there. In Balboa when I want to talk with the manager or person in charge I am introduce immediately but not in El Cajon gym. If is a pity because the gym on El Cajon is so close to where I live now and now I think twice before going over there. I hope somebody can do something soon. I If you think this is not true, please go and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWanted to love this place but couldn't. Equipment is pretty old, not maintained well despite an on-site technician and even their own clients complained about the cleanliness. All of which would be fine if the pricetag was $20-30 cheaper. It seemed like their own sales people recognized the gym wasn't up to par either since they kept trying to tell me about other 24 hour fitness gyms nearby. This was despite me repeatedly telling them I didn't care about those gyms I was specifically interested in this gyms location. Kept telling me they're swapping they're in the process of upgrading equipment. But that's in the future and I'm looking for a gym whose facility is worth the prices they're charging for a Super Sport gym.
Other part that confused me was the primitive method of entering the gym. Finger print and a pin? It's the 21st century - a lot of other gyms have a barcode on a keyring that you can scan that same barcode into your phone or pull it up on the gyms app. On their screen it then pulls up your picture and identity confirmed. A lot faster as well.
Salt in the wound was a salesman gives me a follow up call - I explained what happened and asked I not be contacted again. A week later I was contacted, and was told he forgot. I got the impression he wasted my time with the previous weeks phone call.
Needless to say, the experience killed my impression of 24 hour fitness after hearing such great things about it through other friends. This location is on par with a discount gyms (some of which are disturbingly better for half the price) and rates need to reflect what they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you are experienced in the gym, and are looking for a place where you can get in your workout with all the needed equipment and not be bothered, this is a solid gym. The only issues I can even think of is a couple (literally 2 or 3) of the machines are a little rickety and a lot of the members don't wipe machines after use.
They have one smith machine plus 6 squat racks including their training area which has 4 olympic lifting stations, each with a pull up bar. They also have soft boxes, a ton of kettlebells, battle ropes, and a TRX station. For whatever reason, all that is hard to find in East County, so I'm super about it.
If you're new to the gym, but you're looking to invest in training to learn, they have great personal trainers. They also have classes that come with memberships that are good for beginners.
However, if you like the planet fitness/crunch vibe where it's really focused toward beginners who are figuring things out on their own, it's colorful and flashy, and they're happy to walk you through things - not saying all of the 24 hour staff isn't like that, I just wouldn't say it's not the overall vibe here - then this gym might not be your favorite.
I personally love this gym. I did trial memberships at 4 different gyms in the area when I moved here from Chula about a year ago, and this one is by far my favorite. I really like the staff, and I've also trained with one of their trainers (Emily) and had a great experience.
Every gym is a little different in their equipment, crowd, and attitude. This one is the right...
