Went here after another El paso stylist i had scheduled with didnt show up to the salon or return my call. Anyway only 1 girl in there spoke good English. Ok thays cool i AM IN EP. im from dallas. I asked prior if they knew how to work with my hair type. They said yes. An older lady Asked me to detangle my own hair. I did. Im natural so even if I detangle it still wont have a comb go through easily. Thats just the nature of afro hair. The wash was thorough. But i feel she created more tangles for herself with the vigorous movement. After that she put on conditioner and a steam treatment. That was nice. So then it was time to comb through it. Your supposed to comb natural hair from the ends to the top. She started at the top. Didnt speak English and i kinda felt helpless at that point. She was rough and was so impatient with my hair. Pulling hard and BREAKING it. My longish hair is SO thin now im pretty sure most of it ended up in the brushes and combs. No exaggeration. My "ponytail" is extremely thin. So thin i cant style it. I have a "whisper" of hair left. Im kind of in disbelief. She was tired of my hair by the end. Grunting in frustration Making ME feel bad. And i was in pain the whole time. She passed me over to another girl but my hair was already ruined by then. Honestly im going to have to cut it off to get the fullness back. The other ladys who left before me had beautiful blowouts. Mine was very smooth And maybe would've been great had i had much hair left. I can feel my scalp thats how thin it is. Sigh. They were really nice but this place isnt made for black women with type 4 hair. I wanted to like it. And probably would have if my hair wasn't so thin now and the lady wasnt so impatient with me. I regret not stopping her. El paso is just not the place for black women to get their hair...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I messaged them on Facebook asking if they did cutting and styling of curly hair, they responded quickly with a "yes". I asked if they were talking walk ins, they said yes again. I went in there, and the main lady said "Hola!". When it was clear I didn't speak Spanish, she didn't acknowledge me further for sometime. I waited for an hour and 15 minutes before being gestured to sit in the chair. Zero small talk was offered. The barest minimum effort was made to understand what I wanted and no styling input was given despite being asked what she thought. She combed out my curly hair completely dry, raking through the knots and pulling my head every which way without even ATTEMPTING to spray in water or detangler. Upon finishing the cut, she asked me if it was short enough without even showing me the back with a mirror. She seemed frusterated as I scrambled to put my glasses back on and feel when my hair was cut to. I walked out looking atrocious. People usually can lie and tell you your hair looks alright after any haircut, but I walked out of that salon and 6 of my loved ones couldn't say one nice thing. That lady took away my ability to feel pretty with absolutely no remorse.
I will say, she took her time with the other Spanish speaking Dominican ladies. She talked to them a lot, and they were laughing. The women before me walked out looking happy and beautiful. There was a male hairstylist who was at least nice enough to ask me what I was there for and make a little bit of small talk about 45minutes into my wait. I wouldn't write this place off if you fit the crowd, but if you walk into that place and you don't look like everyone else, walk out. Do not waste your time and money at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEDIT: I recently got a pixie cut because the comments the employee made kept bothering me. changed to one star, seeing people with the same complaints and being treated poorly based on the hair type. I'm not surprised.
Place is good, nothing wrong with the location itself. The only problem is that when I was getting my hair combed out (I'm black, my natural hair gets tangled and easily gets knots) the worker kept making comments like "what are you doing with your hair??" AS IF I did this on purpose... as she kept pulling out the knots and all, IN FRONT of another customer making those comments... Alot of hair on the comb, not really gentle with it.... I was really embarrassed and didn't know what to say, I really wished she didn't say that :/ based on the other reviews, it seems like I wasn't the only one with this issue.. I wasn't feeling good after that, I kinda wanted to walk out and just tell her don't bother with it if it was such a struggle (literally heard her grunting as if this was too much to handle), but I just sat it out until my hair was dried for another girl to straighten it. Wasn't happy about the attitude of the first girl. Idk, it just made me feel ashamed of my hair even more... and it's odd how this place promises to make you feel your best. And I didn't feel...
