Update: I wish we could leave a good review for this place because it just seems better than other competitors. But the grooming dept is just such a disaster that I canât. We finally solved their online booking system. Mixed breeds canât book grooming online. Oddly, they wonât schedule appt over the phone either, so if you donât read this review or pull your hair out for 20 min trying to figure out their problem, youâre up the creek. Once you do get booked, they cancel and/or change it (happened both times weâve gone). Apparently, you can book online for as late as 3 or 4PM but the groomer doesnât take appts after 1:30PM, so again if you donât figure that out youâre up the creek. Even better, today we were refused. Our puppy was too young at 5.5 months despite his age being in his profile and the store accepting puppies as young as 8 weeks. We accepted a nail clip and grind for him and the planned services for our other dog so the trip was wasted. We had a lot of hope for an alternative to Petco/Petsmart, but this place is just as bad in its own way. Seems the days of a reliable, local business are fading.
Original: We tried several times online and over the phone to schedule a grooming appointment. Every time we've scheduled, our appointment has been canceled within 24 hours of the appointment. Apparently, there's only one groomer. Why the scheduling app can't manage scheduling for one groomer is beyond me. Worse yet is when you call, they don't answer. When you leave a voicemail, they do not call back. This is a very poorly run operation. I can understand difficulties due to a limited staff. I cannot understand the lack of management and organization. They could be the best groomers in the area, but we won't go somewhere that can't be bothered to provide any semblance of...
Read moreEvery time I've been in I've had a good experience, I actually prefer going here over Petco down the street even though things typically cost $2-3 more. All the employees have been nice and if Eric is working that day he will make sure he greets you which is a huge plus for me. Unfortunately this past week after not seeing him for awhile I found out the store manager TJ who I really liked is no longer there which is very upsetting. TJ gave me loads of helpful advice when I was having problems with my fish tank/ fish, honestly he was one of the only reasons I kept returning.
My only complaint other than TJ leaving is I did notice two weeks ago one of the cats in the corner for adoption had a little poop accident in the cage all over his toys, scratcher, and bed. I reported this to Eric and in turn his manager to which she said she had called and reported it to the adoption agency that placed him there but otherwise they couldn't clean it. This poop accident had clearly happened early in the day because by the time I went in the store in the late afternoon and saw it, it was mostly dried (but still reeked). I'm unsure what the agreement is between the adoption agency and store/ associates but to leave the poor cat in the small cage to lay next to and try to walk around his diarrhea is a little ridiculous. It's not difficult to remove and dispose of the ruin things or if anything move the cat to another cage. - if I had the time to sit and wait all day to make sure it was taken care of (or taken care of it myself), I would have. I'm sure the employees have keys to the cage for animal...
Read moreIt actually doesn't not bring me any pleasure to leave this place a bad review, because the customer service is so much better than the other pet store in Eldersburg. But, unfortunately, I need to let others know what they're getting into.
A few weeks ago we bought a goldfish and a hamster. The goldfish died within a day. We didn't think much about it because that can happen with goldfish; they aren't guaranteed to live very long. So I went back and bought a new one. This one lived 4 days, then died. I began doing research and it's a type of disease from contaminated water. The other fish in our tank (from other stores) are fine, so it has to be from the pet store. I went back again and sure enough, their goldfish tank was full of fish that were dead or dying.
Then, after 5 weeks our hamster suddenly had a stroke and passed away. We've had several hamsters in the past who lived to an old age (for a hamster) and this one was raised under identical conditions. The vet said that bad breeding practices can cause strokes at a young age in hamsters.
Again, we originally chose this pet shop over the local competitor because the people who work there are so nice and helpful. I don't think they realized they were selling us sick animals. So I gave an extra star for that, but we will no longer be purchasing any pets from this store. But we will continue to use their grooming services and buy pet items from them. Just beware when...
