Big John's Closeouts — Local services in Elizabethton

We truly thought this was a replicable store and we loved being able to support our local businesses rather than shopping at huge corporate chains. We have been long term customers of Big Johns in Elizabethton. We have spent thousands of dollars with the company over the last 10 years with complete remodels of 3 homes. My last purchase was over $2000 which we purchase 15 replacement windows for OUR new house. I went in with the exact measurements and told the clerk exactly what we needed for our new home. We needed 15 new double pane energy star windows. I paid in full for the windows and had to wait 2 weeks since the sizes we needed were not in stock. We picked up the windows yesterday and today when we get the windows out to be installed our contractor immediately says these windows aren’t even up to code with the energy rating. I called the store and was basically told there was nothing reasonable that could be done. We specifically ask for energystar windows and not to mention why would anyone in their right mind purchase windows that weren’t up to code. We are so disappointed with this company and will not do business there again. I am a proud member of the local Chamber of Commerce in the community and will pass on this information/story ever chance I get to ensure others don’t have this experience.

I purchased all my cabinets for my new kitchen. Prices about the same but decided to support a local business from where I grew up. Cabinet department seemed annoyed with the questions I asked. Said they would call when the order was in and never did I had to every time and I had three different orders. When called about my last order with questions they said didn’t even have placed. When giving feedback to the store they seemed annoyed and responded with umm hum and said couldn’t do anything about it no apologizes. Not all the hardware was provided on our second pickup and were not able to install them. When asking for something in the store they would turn around and expect you to follow.
