If I could give a negative or no star rating I would. I have been an EMT for 24 years and have never seen such horrible care. My mom had a knee revision 3 weeks ago. surgery was at 11:00 they took her back at 10:00. They never updated their board and never gave updates, at 3:00 I asked for an update and questioned if there was any problems as knee surgeries don't usually take that long. Was told the Doctor was finishing up and would call us in a few minutes. At 4:00 The doctor called gave update said she would be in recovery until 5:30 and then would be taken to the 6th floor. At 6:00 not hearing anything and their surgery board still saying she was in recovery i found a phone and called the ext they gave us. as everyone in the area went home. After they acted like they didn't know who she was finally told me she had been sent to her room an hour ago. On floor nursing staff was a joke. They gave me a hard time about staying with her. Thank God I won that one, I would hate to see the care she would of got if I had not been there. Pt asked for Benadryl for itching from pain meds which is normal for her to which they said they would ask for an order and never did. Knee was supposed to be iced that did not get done until 9:30 with the excuse they didn't have enough ice packs for all patients. We never seen a nurse unless she was giving meds. Their patient care person was rude and more worried about telling us how the floor was full and she was running from one end of the hall to the other. Had to call for pain meds 3 times and they were given 45 minutes late which pushed pain scale from an 8 to about a 10. Then the nurse acted stunned I had to tell he if they had not let it get out of her system we would not be where we were and had to have her call for a stronger IV pain med to get the pain back under control. The day nurse had no idea what meds she was giving and didn't know the difference between oxycodne/percocet and hydrocodone/Vicodin. I know this as an EMT. Even had the nerve to tall me that their pharmacist didn't know what they were talking about. They did not give her blood sugar or high blood pressure medication while she was there causing both numbers to be high and then blowing her off when she was concerned which up set her and I had to calm her down. Upon her discharge this same day nurse had the nerve to tell her that they did not give blood sugar or BP medication while she was there and she should not resume taking them when she got home, but call her doctor an make an appt. to see if he still wanted her to take them. Thank God I was there because as an elderly lady my Mom would have done what this so called nurse told her. I had to tell her we were going to continue to take all her meds when we got home that just because she had knee surgery didn't mean her diabetes and high BP went away. Her following this advice could have caused very serious medical problems and possibly death! Stay away from this hospital! And if you have to use this hospital do not leave your...
Read moreI went in to the emergency room a few days ago because I believed I was suffering from sun poisoning. Naturally, I had a horrific sunburn, but the alarming symptoms that made me go in were: swollen eyes, throat felt constricted/hard to swallow, dizziness, and nausea.
When I went in, the triage nurses, I felt, took me very seriously. Once I was brought into the back, I met my first nurse. He asked me a few questions and told me it's probably an allergic reaction to my medications. Okay, great.
Then, the physicians assistant, Jim, came in and asked me a couple questions. I have encountered him before and each time I meet him (at least three times) he comments on my weight and that he's impressed that I don't have diabetes. At any rate, I usually like his softer approach, but this time I felt like he was very patronizing. He told me "it's just a sunburn," and made me feel crazy for being worried about my facial swelling (could only see about 50% out of my eyes).
After waiting 45 minutes, a new nurse comes in to give me two injections: a steroid and a tetanus shot. None of these treatments were discussed with me prior. She briefly told me what their names were and why she was giving them to me. The MOMENT I declined the tetanus shot, the "care" I received was rude and abrupt. I was discharged within ten minutes of declining the tetanus shot and when I asked for some sort of cream to help with the swelling, I was told by the PA to use aloe. I told him several times that I tried using aloe but it burned and made my welts swell even larger, but he said to use it anyway.
I'm very upset with how I was treated on this day. I'm not an idiot. I'm a grown woman. The way I was treated was so insulting and made me feel like I was crazy. This emergency room in this hospital is the reason people do not seek medical care when something is wrong.
Avoid at all costs or, please, go to...
