I had found a old Gruen watch that after some family research had belonged to my great grandfather

I feel in love with the watch and was still capable of running even after 40 years in a cigar box in a garage The watch was in need of a complete and serious overhaul internally and externally the movement was running extremely slowly, missing crystal, missing second hand and overall just needed a good cleaning

I had called around and was given very high estimates in the $350 area and many said it’s unfixable do to the age and refused to touch it and the fact the manufacture closed in the 70’s. I was referred to Swinford by a good friend that had done a lot with them and I though I should give them a try.

I stopped by and was immediately greeted which is something I don’t get a lot as easily do to me being in my early 20’s. They were eager to take a look at the watch and said that they could get it as close to new as possible at a extremely reasonable price and it wouldn’t be that hard for them to do since the watch is running under its own power.

They completely disassembled the movement, cleaned, oiled and reassembled it. Replaced the second hand that went missing so long ago with one that matched. And custom handmade a crystal lens to fit (it was a weird size and had to be arched) and cleaned the band.

I’m not going to lie it did take about a month to complete but I don’t care about that. Quality comes at a price and for being under $200 I’m not complaining especially with how it came out when I picked it up.

I know I might be crazy to put as much money as I did into the watch and it might not be worth that but for being a family item money value isn’t important.

They also did some research for me on my watch and found it’s over 80 years old and I’m pretty sure they were shocked that this old mechanical winding watch was still ticking after missing its crystal and being exposed to garage conditions for as long as it was.

They treated me as a regular client and treated my watch as a limited edition Rolex.

I will recommend them for anything jewelry related. They also custom make jewelry and work on clocks also.

I had been having trouble with a Watch i bought some years ago, and it is a nice gold dress Watch that i wear going out.

Well everytime i tried replacing the battery, dead... I got nothing, and so rather than throw it out i decided to take it to a Watch Repair Service, and I found a couple, but reading reviews is very very Important and so i did.

So... I called first explaining my delima & issue and they said bring it (the Watch) right up, we'll take a look at it.

Well... within i'd say 7 to 10 minutes they had an answer for me, Sir... that will be $10.00 Bucks

Long Story told, buying cheap batteries isn't always thee right answer, if you're having issues or problems with your Watch.. as i was don't get bent out of shape as i was, just give the good folks at Swinford Jewelers a call, and let them solve your Watch problems for You.
