I was all set to give them a 5 star review, but no such luck.
I look to the framers to know what it is that I need - I shouldn't have to research after the fact to find out that I should have asked for something that now could interfere with how well protected my framed items are.
I brought in 4 items, two at a time: two very large 24 x 36 inch posters, an 18 x 24 inch poster, and a smaller item that was about 8 x 10 inches. I didn't want the larger items to get even bigger so I requested not to have them matted. I thought they did a great job (visually speaking anyway) and even seemed to cut me a few deals with the price and material used (although now, I'm not so sure if that actually happened and am not even sure I trust 99 percent UV protective material was used, which is what I asked for).
I was researching framing in general once I got all of my items back, and came across several articles stating that when you don't use a mat, you should use spacers to prevent the artwork from sticking to the glass. As a customer with no custom framing experience, I didn't know to ask for spacers without the mat. I would have thought the framers would have suggested this.
I called them and asked if they always use spacers when no mat is used. They said it depends on what is being framed. On posters, they usually don't since posters, in their words, aren't very valuable.
By virtue of the fact that I am willing to pay hundreds of dollars to custom frame an item, I should hope they understand that even a $5 poster can be valuable and should be preserved the best way possible. Plus, one of the 24 x 36 posters cost me $450 (while the other two unmatted items were $80 and $40, but still worth preserving. The smallest, matted item was $200. So clearly, each piece cannot be judged by size or appearance). Also, I would think as framers they are aware that posters are often limited edition and can be worth thousands of dollars if not more.
When I said I paid $450 for one of the posters, there was no apology or even much of a reaction. I was told I should be able to tell if a spacer was used by looking at it - they didn't even offer to look at it for me if I brought it back. They said if a spacer wasn't used, they could redo it if I paid for it.
No thanks.
How about, why didn't you tell me up front what my options are, and the potential damage to what I'm framing if I don't use a mat? It's nice that you undercharged me "by mistake" and used upgraded material, but this means nothing if the poster is now going to stick to the glass. It was probably safer in the mailing tube it came in.
It's unfortunate that I can't use this company again, but I pay a framer not only to frame, but also to be an expert in the best way to preserve my item, not judge it to be worthless just because it's a band poster and not an...
Read moreI am incredibly impressed with this place! I had a vision of framing my Indian wedding sari which would then be hung in a very special, recently decorated room. I had no idea where to start, who to trust with this, what it would entail. I literally googled and came upon the Picture Framing Warehouse in Fairfield and without knowing any of their previous work, took a chance and had them execute this vision. They made me feel confident from the minute I handed over my sari. It took them approximately 2 weeks and what I got in return was a simple masterpiece. A material possession I will truly cherish forever and can only hope one day my great grandchildren will cherish as it hope it'll get passed down for many generations. Thank you to the Picture Framing Warehouse for just making this happen so seamlessly. For anyone out there that wants a product that is truly unique and personal, you can trust this place with your...
Read moreI'm an artist and have been bringing my work here for framing for about 4 years. I am super picky, but want a fair price. I trusted them to frame for my first solo show in NYC and breathed a huge sigh of relief when everything was framed perfectly! Everyone I have worked with here has been excellent. From the owner, Jon, to his associates - shout out to Armen - not only are they pleasant and knowledgable, but they go above and beyond to get things done right. They have accommodated rush jobs and fixed (at their cost) things that were not to my liking. A bit out of the way in an industrial/commercial area, but...
