I have been to 'Back To The Past Collectibles' several times over the past 5 or so years when they were on Inkster Rd. I liked the selection of collectibles, comics and pop culture items. I thought they had a good selection of all and had them displayed nicely. Recently I had an opportunity to do some unrelated business in the area so I thought I'd stop by. I decided to look up their hours on Google. I noticed they moved to a new location nearby. I was excited to check out this new store! My excitement quickly vanished when I got to the new store.....I first went to their comics. Their boxes of generic comics were priced at $2 a piece until you bought 25, then they were $1 a piece after. Whaaaaat? Basically junk non-valuable comics I have to pay $50 for 25 before I get a discount? I can buy those types of comics on eBay all day long for .50 cents or less a piece!!! I found a collection of 'JSA Classified' #1-9, they wanted $24.95 for the collection! I found the whole run of 31 issues on eBay for less than $1 a piece WITH shipping....That was their comics. Their displays for their action figures and other books, records, etc. were very random and sloppy. No order anywhere, and their other store was much bigger and had a lot more room to display items. This new store is about half that size and there's much less on display. Heck, some of their action figures were just dumped into milk crates on the floor.....I was really disappointed in this new location. I think I'll save myself a trip and just buy my collectibles off of eBay. I don't care to waste my time to drive there and get ripped off....Extremely disappointed. This is a perfect example of why brick and mortar comic stores are going the way of the dinosaur, you can find much much better values on eBay. And I'm not a huge fan of eBay. I'd much rather support my home town businesses, but not when they blatantly rip you off with...
Read moreStop in to ask a question about comic books had one handy. They said it wasn’t worth anything, that I believe. My problem was the customer service. There was a young lady sitting behind the counter on the phone ( her conversation lead me to believe it was not a business call. Never greeted us, didn’t say one second someone will be with you, nothing. This is a place of business, right? Then after standing there for a few minutes a guy comes up to the counter with this look on his face that read , “what do you want “ not a welcoming how can I help you . You can tell when you are somewhere when you are not wanting. I got that feeling. It just made me feel some kind of way, not in a good way. I left and went up the street to a different place and I knew it was not just me. The atmosphere was totally different and they had customers. They still managed to greet us and make us feel like we just killed their dog. And they gave me a lot of information that I need it. So boost up your customer service, no one should be made to feel like that just because they walked into your place...
Read moreSold a large and varied collection for me. Picked up at my home (easy for me) and listed/sold over next few months. Scott made sure his company got a substantial piece of the value paid out to them. Many lots were apparently purposefully small in size to help garner listing fees. Others (comic sets) sold by the box full could never achieve value that way. Probably paid double in fees due to structure of contract. Many items were returned as unsuitable but were not rejected beforehand (not all items returned either, 1 box "forgotten"). Overall auction experience was stressful in negotiations and lacking in clarity. Did sell most pieces, prices varied wildly! Many of my notes were used to ease the auctioneers efforts but garnered me little gain for the effort. Was close to acceptable but I have no desire to dissect or relive. Glad ordeal is over. Check did clear, could have sweetened it just a touch with a rounding...
