I love the Sound Shoppe! Darrell has done excellent repair and custom work on my guitars for many years. His setup work always exceeds my expectations, especially on acoustic guitars. Darrell also stocks a wide variety of strings and accessories, and is always helpful with my unusual string gauges and requests for odd-ball items and parts. His "Big D" custom guitars are very nice, they are solid pro-level instruments made from top-shelf parts with great attention to detail.
As a local family-owned business, the Sound Shoppe really cares about their customers. Darrell offers great customer service, good advice, and always stands behind his products. He is very honest about the condition of used instruments and equipment, and makes sure those used items are in the best working condition possible. A lot of my most frequently-used gear comes from the Sound Shoppe!
The Sound Shoppe also offers lessons with Scott Todd and Barry Billings, both are versatile professional players with a great deal of touring and studio experience. I would recommend lessons with them for players of any skill level, as they are both quite knowledgeable and friendly fellows who do a good job of explaining musical concepts.
I highly recommend the Sound Shoppe for their new & used gear, instrument setups & repair, and highly-competent lessons. Darrell has been very helpful to me for over 30 years, and I'm very proud to see his son Tanner keeping up the tradition. An A-1 music...
Read moreI've been shopping at this place on and off for over 20 years. Way back when it was in the shopping center on Mall Rd. It's been a while ago, and I had honestly forgotten about my sub par experience until I stumbled upon this place on the net. I took a Les Paul in to get it set up. The store owner did it, and did a nice job. I then took a less expensive guitar in and paid the same price for a setup done on it. When I got the guitar back (my wife dropped it off and picked it up for me since I have a busy schedule) it was obvious that a full setup wasn't done on the less expensive guitar (which was still in the $1000 dollar range). All that was done was a string change.
Also, while I've always gotten along good with the owner, the owners son is now in the shop almost every time I go in and he is extremely unpleasant to deal with. Acts like it's a huge pain to have to deal with customers, and isn't friendly at all. I've always gone here because I live in Florence, and it's closer than other places, but from now on I'll probably be going across the river. At least they are much more friendly there, and if I pay for a full setup they actually do...
Read moreI purchased a brand new acoustic guitar in March 2024. Darryl did amazing work on it. He did a re-string with high quality strings and did wonders for the instrument so that it would play easily and beautifully. Unfortunately, the guitar had some manufacture defects which caused the body to crack. I brought the guitar back to Darryl. He was so gracious to take the time to inspect the instrument and send pictures to the manufacturer. With Darryl's help, the manufacturer responded, and sent the shop a brand new guitar (same make and model). Darryl took the time to inspect and work on the fret boards so that it would be ready for me to play at my job that evening. I am so grateful for his knowledge of the instruments and the craftsmanship that he puts into making sure that the guitars in his shop are ready to play. I am confident that my guitar/my situation would not have received the same care and attention elsewhere. I am so grateful for Darryl and I am a forever customer and I will be referring my students to him. I will be back in regularly to get my guitar tuned up by him. Thank you, Darryl and thank you...
