Terrible experience!
I called to ask their hours on the phone, along with a few other questions, the guy seemed a little rude, but no big deal. I get there at around 5:15, they close at 6:00. No other customers are in the store. I am pretty excited because I made the hour and 15 minute drive to Ft. Wayne to check out some higher end home theater stuff.
I explained to the guy behind the counter (tall with a shaved head - didn't catch his name) that I have high end Best Buy speakers that I have had for a while, a subwoofer that just died, and an older high end Denon receiver that I just ordered. I tell him that I was hoping to listen to some different setups, learn a little, and find out where my money would best be spent on my home theater system.
After he announces that my speakers are crap, he then asks about my receiver I just ordered and tells me that that is also going to sound terrible as well. I ask him why, and he gets all defensive, and condescending like I have insulted him. "Okay"..... I said. To which this guy replies. "I don't know what to tell you. You bought the wrong receiver somewhere else, and I don't know what to tell you man!" While throwing his hands in the air.
This is the second worst customer service experience I have ever had in my entire life. I walked in looking to buy some floor speakers, maybe a subwoofer, and it must have been to much to handle for this expert salesman. How dare I shop around, walk in his store, and ask questions about audio equipment! Unbelievable! Literally record breaking! It amazes me that places like this can keep their doors open. Apparently they must have a lot of customers that already know it all, and only purchase there, because if you don't expect to get treated awful!
I told him I wouldn't waste anymore of his time and left. (Total time in store: 3 minutes). I reviewed the quality as poor -fair, I would not consider this accurate, as I never got to actually look at or...
Read moreDismissive. Needed to have speaker wire run through ceiling and walls in my media room for an in-ceiling speaker installation . Before I could finish explaining my project (a 4 Atmos in-ceiling speaker install in my 20 x25 ft media room), the store clerk/manager (?) cut me off short and acted like he was not interested and said "they don't do that kind of work unless you buy equipment from their store". When I told him they did a speaker wire in-wall install in my home last year without me purchasing any equipment from them, he changed his story and said 'oh, well..., they could do it since I was a previous customer'! When they did my speaker wire wall install last year, they never questioned if I was a previous customer or bought equipment from them.... it was an in-wall - in-ceiling wire install job! I can appreciate not wanting to waste their time on what they may consider menial jobs, but I thought this type of work is what they do. Feeling like a 2nd class customer was disturbing. I don't have the experience the Classic Stereo staff has when it comes to knowing how and where to install in-ceiling speakers, I rely on advice and recommendations from experienced installers. I don't 'shop' here regularly, but this is the 2nd time I've experienced this kind of rude behavior from their staff. Won't be...
Read more25 years ago we had Classic wire and install 2 home theater systems and set up and wire 2 additional rooms with speakers and volume control. In the last month, purchased 2 paradigm subwoofers. Upgrading the game room home theater that they installed found that when disconnecting old speakers the picture posted here is what we found they used as speaker wire throughout the whole house. Asked them recently for a price quote for 8' speaker wires and they quoted $1K. Why would we spend $1K on 8' of wire when this is what they used throughout the house? Also after deciding we only needed one subwoofer we called about returning one and was informed they have a 5 day return policy and 15% restock fee. Even Amazon gives you 30 days with free returns and no restock fee. To supposedly be a high tech home theater dealer their listening room leaves a lot to be desired. Be cautious doing business with them and pay close attention to...
