El Rio Grande Latin Market — Local services in Fort Worth

My feelings are kind of mixed on this place.

On the one hand, they're conveniently located; the produce is exceptional; and the prices are ok. They're one of the few grocery stores in my area that carry gluten free foods and half & half. And they score extra points for not being Walmart, which I usually get stuck going to because they have everything I need in one place.

But on the other hand, the service and sanitation leave much to be desired. My cashier may have been having a bad day; she did say she wasn't feeling well. And I don't expect anyone to be excited to be at work. But she seemed surly from the get-go. Then, she coughed all over my produce and complained about having bronchitis. I don't know why the manager let her work if she has bronchitis, and I really don't understand why she wasn't required to at least wear a mask.

When I tried to finish the transaction and go home, my P-EBT card was declined, and I didn't notice. I'm glad she caught it before I left, but she subtly accused me of trying to run off without paying, and started lecturing me about the consequences she would suffer had I left before she caught it. It wasn't intentional, and I wasn't running anywhere. I apologized immediately when the mistake was discovered, and grabbed an alternate form of payment, so there really was no reason to treat me like I was a shoplifter.

Walmart is just a few blocks away from El Rio Grande. And while I hate going there due to how large and crowded Walmart is, I think I might start going there for big trips, and only swing by El Rio Grande if I need to pick up a few things.

Honestly, I can forgive the unprofessionalism of the cashier. I worked in the service industry for decades. It's a tougher job than many people give credit, and it doesn't pay very well. So it's unrealistic to expect service workers to put on a brave face every day. But I have to draw the line when it comes to the health and safety of my family. Even if she was on the mend and cleared for work, she should have been required to wear a mask so her spit doesn't land on...

okay so during business hours place looks and smell great! why wouldn't it ? it has fresh bread being baked carnitas and rotisserie chicken being made , fresh aguas de sabor but as i have met personal employees (some who had applied and i was interviewing for an opening at our store have told me- i am looking for another job elswhere because they do not like the kitchen duties here) i refused to believe it!, until i seen it my self. not only did i find RAT droopings but seen the huge dog size RATS, scurrying out of the back door kitchen while i was throwing away the trash from our store. Yuck ,afterward, a fellow employee of el rio confirmed it, yes! they do have very LARGE RATS in the kitchen carniceria and...

Cant go no lower on stars or i would i waited in line getting fresh cut meat thay kept skipping over me finily i went off finily got help picked out some good thick steaks walked away and looked the tbones were realy way thinner than what i say so i went back and asked can i get 2 pounds of this its thicker she crabs it and walks towrds the back and switches it with the thinner steaks so i put it somewhere else and left but watch them when you get the thick tbone on sale you dont get them you get the realy thin...
