I don’t even know where to start. Everything here was simply put PERFECT. I loved my entire experience here at albertgerald. The warm and friendly environment made me feel extremely comfortable and welcome. Exactly what I was looking for. A place where I can feel comfortable asking all my questions without feeling annoying or misunderstood (I been to a couple of tailor shops in the area that haven’t been as helpful and accommodating as Hilda & Albert. That’s why I feel it’s important to mention how comfortable I felt there!) I was in need of a custom made suit for my husband and a major dress alteration for myself. Everything from start to finish was perfect. Seriously. I got to choose fabric, lining, cut, fit down to the color of the stitching for the suit. When it came to my husbands measurements, they where v. precise and didn’t leave any room in my mind to be doubtful. When it came to his second fitting we could already see how perfect the suit would come out once it would be completed. At the third and final fitting we couldn’t believe our eyes. What we received was a MASTERPIECE. Truly. It looked like one of those suits you would only see on a red carpet. It fit way better than my husband and I ever said expected. I come from the clothing and design industry myself so I do understand quality. And this suit IS top notch quality. Now let’s move on to my dress. The alterations of my dress where just as perfect and phenomenal as his suit. Hilda took her time when fitting the dress. She listened to everything I asked her. And made sure I didn’t have any questions open. Taking in the sides of a dress is difficult enough for most tailors let alone recutting the entire piece. But for Hilda it seemed like a child’s play. I had to come in for two follow up fittings as well since the work was enormous. The outcome was so excellent. I now have a favorite dress in my closet that fits like a glove and makes me feel the way a clothing item should. Read moreI would not recommend this place. I made an appointment to get a quote for dress alternations. Upon arriving at 5pm, the staff was sitting the back and did not come out to greet me until I was all the way to the back area. They seemed confused so then I proceeded to tell what I needed done (hem, take in the sides, make straps shorter, and make split higher). I showed them pictures of the dress on me and began to explain in more detail. They still seemed confused, so I then asked if they wanted me to try on the dress to make it easier. I felt like I was driving the process the whole time and they did not express any interest in helping me. I proceeded to try on the dress and she started to pin the areas that needed to be altered. Things started to seem better, but then we started talking timing and price. She quoted me $180, which seems ridiculous, but since I am on a tight time-frame I was somewhat willing to pay for it (silly me). We then talked timing; they have a policy that states that they can make alterations in 4 days, but she told me that it would take 2 weeks. This seemed understandable, so I was like, “great!” I then told her that I could not leave the dress today (Thursday) and could bring it in on Monday. They then told me if I waited until Monday then they couldn’t do it in 2 weeks from Monday’s date. Almost they were pressuring me to do it then and there. That made no sense to me, so I began to ask questions to understand why Thursday dropoff versus Monday drop off would make such a difference. Shen then slowly started taking the pins out, assuming that I did not want the serviceany longer (very rude). I told them I needed to make a call to figure out if drop off today was possible. They let me make the call then, when I was coming back to confirm that I would leave dress today (not Monday) they told me they couldn’t do it in the timeframe of 2 weeks anymore. Read moreI bought leather pants for an event that turned out to be a few inches too big in the waist. Brought them to Albert Gerald 2 weeks in advance and advised them that I needed the garment a day before the scheduled event. The staff member measured me and quoted a great price - I paid and thought everything was taken care of.
Pickup date rolls around on the day before the event and I get a call from the tailor shop stating that I was under quoted and that I would have to pay an additional ~$50 because the material was leather. My event was the next day and they had my garment, so I reluctantly agreed to pay the difference. About an hour before pickup they called again to let me know that they could not make any alterations to the garment. I retrieved my leather pants from the shop and noticed that a good amount of stitching around the waist was cut/frayed from possible attempts to alter the garment.
Why am I being notified that the garment Can Not be tailored after the shop held them for 2 Weeks? If they had let me know earlier then I could have tried to find an alternative! With my event being the Next Day, I had to bite the bullet and fashion the alterations myself (turned out horribly). I did receive a refund after a few days, but that does not excuse the lack of communication and mismanagement.
