Tried to buy a bolt action hunting rifle yesterday. Military stationed in Nebraska (PCS) with out of state license. Spent better part of my day listening to the gun counter folks on the phone asking questions to their superiors about how to properly fill out paperwork. When everything was done and they had my license plus military ID and a copy of my orders, they still needed something with my current address. They said my lease would do. So I went to staples and had my lease emailed there and printed. 2 hours of waiting around later and they told me the lease wasnt good enough. I need a government issued document with my address on it. Like what? They have every single major form of ID I can provide including a lease and my military orders. In my 21 years in the military I have bought rifles in Alaska, Arizona, California, Pennsylvania, and Texas and I have NEVER had any sort of issue like this. If you don't understand the laws, and are afraid of getting in trouble for doing your job wrong, you should perhaps become better educated on the rules you are trying to impose. Here's the funny part. After i wasted my day there I went to a gun shop in bellevue. They didn't have what I was looking for but I asked "I'm out of state military. What documentation do you need for me to walk out of here with a rifle today?". The guy running the place said "your license". Wow. Glad I drove 120 miles round trip to Dunham for nothing. Whoever is paying to stock guns at Dunham should be concerned about their employees not being willing...
Read moreDon’t go if you want to purchase a firearm. This place is the first FFL I’ve walked into in 20 years that can’t be bothered to sell you a firearm they have sitting on the shelf(the gun guy was at the front of the store instead of the gun counter). The store goes through the tedium of holding an FFL and has a significant amount of money tied up in inventory that they don’t need to go through if they don’t want to sell guns. Say what you will about the other FFL’s in town, but they will at least sell you a firearm that is on their shelf. Two stars because the rest of the store has been OK on previous visits.
To be fair, the gun guy was a bit out of shape and it was a very hot day. So maybe he was dealing with some heat exhaustion after walking out to his car or something and was physically unable to get back to the gun counter at that point in time. I’m sure if you talk to him for more than 2 minutes he will tell you all about his time in SEAL(MEAL?) Team six. All of us that have been to a gun store or two...
