I went to Nalli for my first time yesterday and it a was wonderful experience.
Full disclosure, I am a white lady and I was invited to a home pooja for Navaratri at friends of my boyfriend. I had no idea what to wear to this to look proper so Mala who is the home owner took me to Nalli to help me shop.
I live in Oakland and I have been speaking to a lot of women in my spiritual community about what to wear that is attractive and comfortable and I have made some purchases in Berkeley and also online. Some of them have worked out ok, some of them not as much. I am an inept Westerner who struggles with clothing in general so I need all the help and input I can get to look nice.
Vineet the lovely staff member, who has only been working there for 3 days did a wonderful job measuring me to find out which size was appropriate, as you are not able to try on the garments. She also assisted me finding the right colors in 3 long kurtas/kurtis I purchased along with 2 pairs of Churidaar leggings and had suggestions of alternate leggings colors I could wear with the more intricate kurta/kurti with beautiful embroidered stitching.
I am sure at some other point I will go back for a sari, once I understand how you wear it along with more kurtas/kurtis.
I am an Optician and I work in Berkeley at a high end optical boutique that sells eyewear and eyeglass lenses and an average sale is $1200 for a pair of glasses. People often spend more than this though and they are trusting me with not only their money, but also their ability to see. People come to us for the excellent service as we pay attention to their needs and take care of each client from start to finish the best we can.
We are now in the age of online shopping and service is important to me as a purchase is as simple as a click of a button as long as you have your phone with you.
I appreciated Vineet’s expertise in an area and realm so unfamiliar to me and will definitely go back to see her when I want to get a Sari as she did not judge me for being a white lady in Nalli purchasing Indian garments.
Vineet is definitely an asset to the company and I am amazed at how well she did for being there for such a short time. Mala also appreciated her help as well in purchasing a lovely and unique red cotton sleeveless dress that was there.
Thank you for all of the help...
Read moreIn a biased opinion, this store has been my happy place and likewise for many of the Indian community members in the Bay Area. It's home away from home for me. . For an unbiased opinion read below: The premium clothing store of Indian wear is just one year old in Fremont and retains a freshness and novelty to it. They opened with a bang and they make sure they are well stocked before major festivals. The shelves have a good variety of sarees (kanjivaram silks, Bangalore silks, art silk, georgettes, cotton silks, polyester, synthetic, handloom linens, khadi and tussar, art benarasis and real banarasis too) they also stock a variety of ready to wear kurtas, tunics for women, infant and toddler clothing for transitional Indian wear. The store stocks ready-made blouses, menswear kurtas, traditional dhotis and pattu veshtis. The staff are very helpful, patient with your search and answer queries over the phone. The price range for sarees is from $26-$526 or more. So go prepared with a budget, else one might get lost in the variety of options. Nalli store, even in India, does not have a discount policy, they stock their store based on price range and you just need to figure out what your budget is when you walk in. . . The store has a all-gender change room and a functional restroom. The location of the store is in a mixed-use complex that has an array of other retails stores but extremely tight parking spots. If you are not sure of your parking skills, go during non-peak hours. The store is also a good place to gift your friend, their child, or your hubby something to remind them of the richness of...
Read moreWe had been to the store twice and were helped by 2 different women on different visits. Both ladies, Ms Durga and Ms Parvathi, were VERY helpful in patiently attending to our family's needs and were very efficient in their respective roles.
Nevertheless, just before going to the store the second time, when I called up the store with a "specific" question, the gentleman who attended the call neither was able to give us the "specific" detail we wanted nor was he friendly (in fact, I smelled arrogance).
Eventually when we went to the store, thank God, Ms Parvathi helped us out during billing. In the meanwhile, we happened to see a gentleman(of sharp nose & short stature...don't know his name) who was helping another customer family. We heard him speak disrespectfully to that family and that made me wonder if he was the same person who spoke to us over the phone. Also, while we were there, we saw him respond to one of his coworkers in a sharp, insulting fashion, which was absolutely unwarranted. All this happened in front of customers. I find him limited on his knowledge that is needed to perform his role effieciently and is clearly unable to multitask as well. From my observation, he clearly is incompetent for the role he is playing and his incompetency comes through as attitude towards co-workers and customers.
Hope Nalli's administration addresses the above mentioned feedback in good spirits and take appropriate action to fix the same. Otherwise, our experience thus far is...
