I had a cousin who used to live in the Bay area return for a visit. One of the places he insisted on going was this place. In his memory? He believes this is one of the best burgers he's ever had and since he now lives in Oregon, he had to hit it up.
Billy Roy's is essentially a HomeTown mom and pop franchise. It's much bigger than a mom and pop franchise would be partially because the owner of this establishment has several other successful restaurant businesses sprinkled throughout the area as well. One of which is Dino's diner, and as far as I know none of these are franchises so they are wholly local businesses.
The location of the restaurant is not on a main Street. Although it does get some decent traffic going back and forth, it isn't surrounded by other shops or many businesses. So its reputation is strong enough to draw its crowd. It is a burgers and fries type restaurant. And their burgers are the highlight of the visit but also has other foods such as salads, other kinds of sandwiches and burgers, and a whole lot of different kinds of sides.
I'll keep this one relatively short. The place is good. My family adores it. I think it's overrated, but it isn't disappointing or waste of money or time. The food is quality, the service is good, the atmosphere is good. The establishment is so big. It rivals a commercial franchise, and even has a separate building next door that belongs to the restaurant where they can hold private functions. Functions. The selection is varied, and I can see why people are fond of it, but I don't know if I've ever found anything there that was so special, uniquely flavored or an experience unto itself that it stands out in a way that would bring me back if family didn't love it as much as they did. However, maybe all the things that I said about the not for stuff and its local town presence is what people like about it and adds to the experience of coming to Billy Roy's.
Word of advice, if you do come here, share your sides because they're well. Proportioned, as there were always leftovers when the party's over. You don't have to have burgers either, they are a bit on the pricier side as far as burgers go, but so would a burger at Red Robin's or other sit-down burger chain be as well.
I do recommend that you try it for yourself, and see if you agree with anything. I say. I personally would not come here on my own if I weren't with people who wanted to come, but when I do come I'm not...
Read moreWe had quite the feast at Billy Roy's Burger Co.! We ordered the Sweet and Swine, Butcher's Cut, sweet potato fries with marshmallow sauce, garlic and lemon herb chicken wings, chili, two jalapeno peppers*, vanilla waffle donuts with ice cream (not sure of the exact name), and an Oreo milkshake. Yes, this was my one meal of the day after a long hike, and I earned it!
The staff is friendly, efficient, and professional. Priscilla, the manager, is incredible—she should win an award or be featured on TV! The parking lot was packed on a Thursday night, which says a lot about its popularity. They even serve wine, which adds a unique touch to the experience. The hard ciders on tap were the best I've had - try guava and/or pineapple. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of a burger joint, an old-fashioned soda shop in the back, and a touch of upscale flair. Beautifully modeled, clean interior that allows for flawless customer traffic flow - seriously, this place rocks!
It was a community hub, filled with people from all walks of life—families, friends, and coworkers. The huge parking lot was completely packed! Give this place 60 years and it will become as legendary as KATZ Delicatessen in New York City (I've been to both locations while living in Crown Heights).
Normally, I take pictures, but I was so caught up in the moment that I decided to just soak it all in and write this review when I got home. We’ll definitely be back once we recover from this feast! Then, I'll take pictures next time, promise. :)
*Priscilla walked around to different tables to make sure people were taken care of. She asked us if we needed any spice and my friend, who loves hot food, practically lit up with joy when Priscilla came back with two...
Read moreCame looking for some garlic fries, a good cheeseburger and beer place to dine at. Saw this new place on Thornton in Fremont that I have been wanting to try out. They have a big private parking lot too. They even have a pick up window outside the restaurant. The place is nice, clean, modern and pretty crowded. They do have a bar area that you should go straight to if you want their happy hour prices then paying up front.
We thought their 'The Cattle Smash' was like their smash burger version with burnt cheese on it but it was a regular three burger stacker with melted cheese. Not what I was expecting but was still moist. It needed more flavor; needs more seasoning. We also ordered fried zucchini and house cut garlic fries. The zucchini was very skinny so it was more bread than anything but it was better than the fries. The house cut fries would have been good IF it was actually cut up garlic then powdered flavor garlic and they put with parmesan cheese to hide it. It made it taste weird. I didn't like the powder taste so I took it off. Thank goodness for the ranch to drench it in. Both were good portions though. Ordered beer which was a good size. We ate at the bar which was good to watch the game and order more beer during happy hour prices. They had a good amount of beers on draft, too.
They actually have a dessert section in back but we didn't get to try it . This place was decent. Prices are decent but won't be my favorite burger and fries place unless my suggestion are considered or someone takes me here. Good place to hang out though at the bar. Good solid three stars for sure but work on my suggestion...
