I'm hot and cold with this Kroger. It's one of the best locations distance wise to my abode; however it is often packed with rude customers, and rude workers even. I was denied cigarettes due to a policy "of not selling cigarettes after 11PM." I asked a manager (another visit later) that such is not the case. It also was a coincidence that I was the only self check-out customer in the store while the employees chatted all around the hub of the checkout area--I'm not sure of the technical term. The kicker? I'm Caucasian. The employees (~5-6) we're all African-Americans. I did not see a red vest, at least I don't remember. I'm surprised that such a policy seemed to exist only on that day, despite that it was merely less than 10 feet away (plus having to unlock a case, holy moly). What a coincidence right? Therefore: a paying customer trying to grab milk, and apparatus to slowly kill myself was denied due to a confirmed lie. But what do I know? I'm just a customer. And I can't have disenfranchisement imposed upon me because I'm white.
Meat department is great. Ask the butcher directly: fat (save $$$) deals compared to the pre-wrapped styrofoam selection. Produce is hit and miss. Spices, herbs and peppers, however, are great at this location. Selection is pretty good among general goods (cereal, pasta, canned foods, anything you can think of), and the Kroger Card sign-up is free, which really saves cash over time and allows the best part: Fuel Rewards. 10¢ off a gallon for a fill-up of your choosing. AND THEY STACK--you can get up to 30¢ off (I've never gone for more) a gallon at the station within the shopping complex. Kroger also has pretty decent store brands, price and taste-wise, but just not selection. Great alcohol selection, especially wine, but unfortunately there's is a Spec's opposite this Kroger. Nevertheless, sometimes pretty good deals in a pinch with your Kroger Card.
Kroger's rating is a pendelum for me. Sometimes down to a 2 or less, or up to a 4½ star.
PS: this location has had multiple incidents of crime in the parking lot. Most famously an arrest of a man with an AR-15, several loaded magazines extra, and cash. Careful out...
Read moreLove my KROGER, the pharmacy is extremely convenient as one can select groceries while waiting for an Rx to be filled ( 2 tasks in one stop).

Read moreThe Krogers on 528 Friendswood have some very racist employees. We stopped going there after the third incident that left my wife crying. I am white and she is brown. She is the most honest person I know. She even goes back to store if an item was not paid for. She was insulted by Kroger staff three times and only when I am not there. First time she and our son were there by themselves, they split because some were things he wanted. At the self serf counter the person watched him scan items. when done the employee wanted to see his receipt and told him no way he got all these groceries for this amount and accused him of stealing. They did not realize that my wife had rung up the majority of items before he did. She was lagging behind and didn't see them ask for a receipt. No apology to my son. the third time the employee was staring at my wife and watching her, She thought why is he watching me? then he walked over real close as she was about to open purse and get card. He stood there staring at her with arms crossed and she asked " can I help you? is there a problem? no answer. He stood there and watched as she opened her purse and even looked in as she was getting credit card. She was so upset she called me at work. This is inexcusable behavior. We will never shop at a Krogers again. NEVER. Bunch of racist people Im not even going to tealk about the second time or the other times the looks employees give her. Never had a...
