I have no shortage of praise for this school, its instructors, and the people who train here. For years I was focused on finding and training at traditional martial arts schools (hardwood floors, no music, no pads etc). I felt that “traditional” was synonymous with “better” or “tougher”. Admittedly, I was apprehensive of joining at first because I thought it wouldn’t be what I wanted, but after meeting and training with the personnel and the students, I’ve found that this school is giving me what I need…and I absolutely love it.
Chief Instructor Ordaz and Mr. Alfred are the definition of professional not only in the art, but also with how they conduct the class and interact with students and parents. As a parent myself, I’m beyond impressed with how they interact with kids. Seeing them train these kids and teach them discipline and character, you’d think they’ve been parents themselves far beyond their years.
They create a healthy atmosphere for all, where everyone is focused on learning and bettering themselves without feeling judged or shamed. From my very first day, students from kids to adults have been super welcoming, and the positivity is infectious. I genuinely feel like my quality of life has drastically improved since joining.
The classes themselves are a true workout! They teach you the techniques and the forms, but right along with it they train your body to grow stronger to BE ABLE to do them properly! It’s easy to see the results of training here for years from some of the senior ranks.
On the business side of things, this school is by far the easiest when it comes to payments and changing your membership level based on your needs. You’re not “locked” into a contract like most martial arts schools do, and the school’s app is really easy to navigate (purchasing gear, keeping track of news, payments, class schedules, progress etc). They are SUPER helpful when it comes to the actual billing part, and take great care in making sure your best interest is at heart.
I’ve been here for one month and just recently got my 7-year-old daughter to join me (she absolutely loves it). We both look forward to training to our black belts together in the years to come, and Roderick’s has our...
Read moreWhen I first enrolled my 5-year-old daughter in karate, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I just wanted a positive outlet for her energy, but what we found at Hero Family Martial Arts has been so much more than that.
The instructors are absolutely amazing attentive, supportive, and truly invested in each student. Even with a large class, they somehow know every child’s name, skill level, and how to work with them individually within the group setting. That’s something I deeply appreciate.
Mr. Ordaz, the way he communicates with the students, even the youngest ones, is incredible. He always expects their best and encourages them in a way that feels both challenging and uplifting. His words motivate not just the kids, but the parents too!
Although my daughter is the one officially enrolled, I’ve taken a few classes myself and I can say firsthand that the environment is welcoming, supportive, and inspiring. The sense of community here is real, students and families alike encourage one another, and that team spirit is a big part of what makes this place special.
Mr. Ordaz is always responsive and willing to work with your individual needs and schedule. The support and encouragement we’ve received here made it an easy decision to commit to Hero Family Martial Arts. While karate is an individual journey, this school truly makes it feel like you’re...
Read moreCannot say enough good things about Roderick’s Family Martial Arts, Blanding. I would give them 10 stars, 20 stars. The instructors are incredible. Mr. Ordaz and Mr. Alfred should teach parenting classes although they don’t have kids of their own. Our son began training at 2. He is now 4 and has learned so many life lessons from Mr. Ordaz, Mr. Alfred, Mr. Jaelon, Ms. Holly, and really every instructor. Even the junior instructor black belts are incredible. If you want your child to learn discipline, self-control, and teamwork all the while getting an incredible workout and expending some energy, this is the place for you.
When we first wanted our son to begin karate, we visited a karate America. We walked in and walked right back out. It was so unorganized, chaotic, and very stressful… and we were in the building much less than 60 seconds.
Roderick’s is the opposite of that environment. Your kids are safe, under amazing instruction, the instructors are calm and can handle even the craziest of kids.
We probably pass 5 other karate schools to get to this one. I would pass 10 others if I had to. Roderick’s Blanding is worth the drive no matter where you are.
If you’re looking for a sport for your child, this is an excellent option. If you’re looking for some help with self-control this is...
