Belk — Local services in Gainesville

No wonder places like Belk are going out of business in small towns all over the U.S. With staff that know nothing, managers that are the same way, wait times just to talk to someone longer than 30 mins to an hour. Really depressing for a store which used to have great customer service around 10 years ago. Nothin last forever I guess.

Went in to the Belk in Gainesville tonight to swap out a pullover for a different style and material shirt, as the one I received as a gift was irritating. Once again I received it as a gift and do not have the receipt I understand that. I called beforehand to make sure there would not be an issue swapping it out with another style and was told it would not be a problem. I get to the store and or course theres no one at one of the "customer service" kiosks and theres a ton of people in the store looking around for employees, cashiers, etc. We finally find one kiosk that has an attendant and proceed to wait in line for around 20-30 mins while she helps the other customers before us in the line and just other randoms that show up. Once again I ask to make sure there will not be a problem in exchanging the pullover. Once again I get the a ok to go and pick out something of the same sale value and that style doesnt matter, she can do the exchange. So my wife and I wander the store for about 10 mins, find the shirt that I want for the exchange as well as quite a few more that we wanted to purchase. Once again there are huge lines at the kiosks that actually have people working at them and we proceed to wait in line. Get up to a new cashier as we couldnt find the previous one at her station. Weve been waiting on this cashier for another 30 mins or so. Get up there and she tells me that they can absolutely not exchange the pullover that all they can do is put the value of it ($3.50) on a giftcard even when it rings up $19.99 in store and at the counter. I say that will absolutely not work explain to her that ive already been told by two employees that they could exchange it and ask for the manager. The ladies mess around for about 10-15 mins, ring up other customers behind us and fail to contact the manager on duty. Finally they call over the intercom and once they do it takes the manager no time to call them back. She explained that we would like to speak to the manager. After waiting for the manager another 10 mins she finally shows up. We explain our situation and who all weve talked to and once again are assured they cannot complete the transaction. We decided to leave the rest of the merchandise we were going right there and I asked for the district managers number because I wanted to understand who was training all the employees to lie and waste people time. She wrote down the 1866 number and you guessed it, ive never gotten ahold of anyone. Worst customer service, worst training, and worst waste of time and money for nothing. Im sure this store will eventually go out of business like the rest around here in the area since no one can seem to hire anyone these days that are worth a damn. I would advise against this store but maybe some of you will have beter experiences that we did after driving 45 mins to get there. Will not be goong back to this store with manager "Liz" in charge. Probably my favorite Store in the Lake shore Mall, but the changes in terms of availability of Petites and Small and Xsmalls has shrunk here enormously, as in most Stores in this area in the past 3 years. Oddly enough Junior sizes are of a large availability as well as over 14's. Love the Junior Styles but am not build as I was at 17 yrs of age.Still weigh the same, but shapes do alter when you're grown up. What foolish Designer hasn't comprehended this??? The selection for :" little old Ladies " is Good, but it's most the :" big old Ladies " who choose that Designer's items.:) Used to be impossible for me to leave Bell empty handed, but has become easier. Sleepwear and Lingerie are costly and again poor choice of sizes.Purses and some brand name shoes as well as Jewelry and Perfumes are of a wonderful, wide selection.If like me you adore Pins/ Brooches, I nearly always purchase one here. Enjoy their Houseware store rather well, but unless you're looking for unique and costly China, Bedspreads ,Sheets and Towels, I suggest you go to another Store in the Mall, whose selection is truly good and more reasonable.
