This current property was acquired in 1972 from Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. The Grotto was built by Catholic priests of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart High School Seminary back in 1929. They pulled rocks from the Fox River and brought colored glass found around a marble factory in Ottawa to fashion the magnificent structure with their bare hands.
Before it became the Kane county headquarters, this property held the Sacred Heart Seminary. Priests were trained there from the mid 1920s up until 1971, when the grounds were sold.
