GameStop — Local services in Georgetown

This used to be the go to store for my family. Yesterday changed that. About two weeks ago I noticed a staff change and I was not comfortable with the way I felt while there. I was with my 16 year old and bought him the game he wanted a Mature game. I felt intense questioning was more than ever in the previous years in making the purchase. Since I had bought a Mature game with him only a few days before in Lexington, with no hassle.

Yesterday, my son wanted to exchange the game he got a few days before with his father. His 25 year old brother and 21 year old girlfriend went to be the adults to do the exchange. They were also purchasing a game.

Sales clerk refused to let them do the exchange because the 16 year old was present. She then hassled them about their purchase.

Years ago when the store opened I went to see the manager to see if the brother could be the adult for all transactions or did I or Dad need to be present. I was told by him that as along as an adult was making the transaction there was no problem.

New girl has decided this is wrong because the 16 will be using the game. I went back to the store with them. I pointed out it was none of her concern and she said unless 25 year old is legal guardian he can't do the transaction. I said as long as an adult is there making transaction what goes on outside her door is none of her business. She said it is the law. WELL she is wrong. She fought me buying the darn game too. This place is a rip off. They try to trick the customers and say your Nintendo is broken.

The employee pulled up the calibration to check the Nintendo switch and tried to first “ show me” that it failed the Nintendo test on the settings. I grabbed it and performed the test and it passed 100% , so I ask the employee “ so this is a broken result ?” Showing him that it’s passing the test 100% and my switch stick is in fact NOT broken , and he grabs it from me and does the test again and all of a sudden there is magically “ no issue” so then after he realized I see he is trying to rip me off and take advantage of me , he tries to knock me off the price because I didn’t have the actual charger that was original. So I asked , what is the price difference if I go get the normal OE charger and then proceeds to say “ oh there really wouldn’t be a difference “

This place is dishonest and tries to take advantage of people. They have a sign in the store that says $140 for trade in on switch lite. Then try to offer me less then half on a basically brand new switch that was never used. I will never shop here again. I truly hope Amazon and other stores put you out of business.

I'd love to review the business from the inside, unfortunately every time I show up some chump has taken what appears to be a three hour lunch. Yesterday being the most recent, I showed up at 3:30 to a store that was shuttered. There was a sign on the door that read "Out to lunch, back at 3:15" You may have noticed the problem. They're already late. I wait until 3:45 and there's still no sign of an employee returning from lunch. Spoke briefly with a guy who had been waiting, said he first checked at around 2:40.

Seriously? Over an hour for lunch in downtown Georgetown? Get real, surrounded by restaurants come back and do your job.

Half an hour late is more than fair for a professional business. Please, either hire enough employees that you don't need to shutter the store for half the day or fire the incompetent one that doesn't care at all...
