I visited Beauty and Company with the intention of purchasing a ponytail or wig and was genuinely excited to try on a few options. I had already tried one and was in the process of exploring another when the manager approached me to inform me—rather abruptly—that customers are only allowed to try on two items.
To be clear, there is no visible signage anywhere in the store indicating this policy. So it felt less like a rule being enforced and more like I was being singled out. The tone and approach felt unnecessary and uncomfortable.
This business is frequented and supported largely by Black women like myself. And yet, the way I was addressed made me feel less like a valued customer and more like a problem to be managed. It’s disheartening when a store profits heavily from a community but shows little respect for the individuals within it.
Regardless of who may have caused issues in the past, every customer deserves to be treated with basic courtesy and dignity. You never know who someone is or what kind of support they’re bringing to your business.
Unfortunately, I walked out without making a purchase—and I won’t be returning. I’ll be taking my business (and recommendations) elsewhere, to places where I’m seen, respected, and treated like a...
Read moreSave yourself and go down the street. I wanted to make a quick trip to the beauty supply for just a few items and since I live right off of hacks this is the closest beauty supply to me. Now I’ve been here several times before but today was a poor experience. Upon entering it is nice to be greeted with a “welcome” and “can I help you find anything” but I don’t need to be asked after every aisle I go on and I do not need to be followed and watched my entire time in the store. I felt very uncomfortable my entire time in the store and barely leave reviews but this experience really bothered me. Just ghetto and unprofessional. Then to talk about customers while around other customers, just childish! Please hire some adults if you all can not be present to run your own beauty supply. I urge you to go to the next closest beauty supply before you spend your money somewhere where you will be treated like a thief and watched your entire trip. I forgot the main thing I needed but I will be making the trip down the street to the next closest...
Read moreI didn’t like the attitude I experienced from the cashier while in the store. She couldn’t even look me in my face when I addressed her. She had, what appeared to be her daughter, help me find the item I needed. Her daughter didn’t know where to find the item I was looking for.
She happened to stumble across it she was walking back to her mother/cashier. Being aloof with your customers only make you look bad. If I ask for help I expect an employee or owner to help.
If you were the owner. Do better, because business owners like you are the reason why “We can’t do business with our own people.”
There is no reason to be rude to someone who is willing to spend money at your place...
