Iāve spent nearly $1,000 at Millstone Nursery, but after what happened today, I will never returnāand I strongly warn others to stay away.
About three weeks ago, I purchased a tree-form David Austin rose from this nursery for nearly $100. The day I brought it home, I noticed early signs of black spot disease on several leaves. I immediately planted it in a high-quality grow bag, pruned the diseased foliage, and treated it with copper fungicide. Iāve cared for it meticulously ever since.
Despite all efforts, the rose continued to deteriorateāno new growth, no viable buds, and even some grafted stems fell off, clearly indicating structural and physiological issues with the plant. This was not caused by neglect. It was a sick plant from the start.
Today I brought it back to the nurseryānot to demand, but to request help or even a replacement. What I received was hostility. The owner told me that ābringing back plants like this could kill everything in our nursery,ā and insisted I take it away immediately. She literally told me ādonāt bring it inside, take it away, youāre going to contaminate us.ā We were treated as if we were carrying biological weapons, not seeking a fair resolution.
When I pointed out that the plant had shown signs of disease almost immediately, I was told āall our plants are guaranteed disease-free,ā and that any issue must be āyour fault, because you planted it.ā I was also told that unless they had planted the rose for me, they offered no guarantee or support whatsoever.
This is not how responsible nurseries treat loyal customers. Even big box stores like Loweās and Home Depot offer a 1-year plant guaranteeāMillstone, by contrast, hides behind a āFinal Saleā policy while pushing diseased plants at premium prices, then refuses to take accountability when problems arise.
I love gardening. I treat my plants with care, knowledge, and deep respect. I donāt expect perfection, but I do expect honesty and basic decency. What I got instead was arrogance, evasion, and disrespect.
Avoid this place. They sell expensive plants with no accountability, and if anything goes wrong,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBuyer beware!!! We purchased two plants last year for over $600. We were told we were going to get a 60 day warranty on them. We paid for them and also pay for them to come out and plant them within 60 days they were turning brown and lease were falling off, we went back in spoke to the owner and one of the nursery workers and we were told to put sugar water and then and wait till spring to see if they come back to life and if not to come back and see them it didnāt work I think they knew they were dead They were just putting us off spring to spring time We come back in with pictures and show them that they didnāt come back to life and they were still dead and all of a sudden our warranty is only 60 days. Iām sorry from one guy then the owner comes and says they donāt have warranties And blatantly lies to our face and tries to tell us that we shouldāve wrapped him in the winter because it was so cold. Another excuse we told her we brought the pictures back in September that had even been called yet then she tried to ask for another excuse why they died. Bottom line is they do not stand behind their products liars and itās unfortunate after spending thousands of thousands of dollars at that nursery. Her outcome find some new ones and Iāll give you a discount. What a joke itās really unfortunate thereās people out there in this business That actually rip people off. Theyāve lost a good customer and Iāll make it my mission. If anyone ever mentions this place to give them a warning about how they...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI like the nursery itself, selection-wise. However, while I struggled to get to the plants I was interested in (pushing huge potted plants to the side with my hip) several employees looked on, never once offering help. Not sure if it was because I was in my, āIām cleaning the houseā clothes, but they sure tripped over themselves to help some of the other, ānicer dressedā ladies that came in. Then, when I went into the gift shop to check out, I stood at the counter while two of the employees talked about 5 feet away from me. I stood there for awhile and debated whether or not to ask someone for help (again) but eventually left, aggravated and sans plants. Good news, I went to my car and googled Gātown nurseries and discovered Good Winds. I ended up purchasing my plants from someone who appreciated my business, and for $17.00...
