First let me say that this is about the fourth time I have boarded my now 10 year-old Maltese Shih Tzu mix at Preppy Pet Ladson. I actually first boarded him when he was still less than a year old and again several times as he matured. Second, I understand that this is a boarding place that it is not the same as at home pet sitting or boutique pet boarding. I also understand that he will be in a kennel for 12 hours an evening, and I donāt expect him to come home like heās fresh been to the groomers. And I did not have them bathe him simply because heās so hyper allergic that I knew if he were musty, I could do that at home. but what I did not expect in the six days that they had him there, was to apparently lie in his own urine to the point where his tail was a matted bobtail and to stink to high heaven so badly that the first thing I did after I got him out of the car was immediately put him into a bath. I paid for a larger than normal kennel for him so that he would have room to run around and not have this happen because I understand accidents happen. I also paid to have solo play morning and afternoon with him thinking that at least he would get out and about at least twice a day. To say Iām disappointed in Preppy Pet Ladson is an understatement. Iām more disappointed with myself that I trusted them and allowed my dog to be abused to this extent. I am not a crazy pet owner and didnāt expect them to brush him during his stay. He gets groomed every five weeks and he may get brushed by myself once or twice between groomings but never in my 10 years of having him has he ever matted like this and in such a short time. The only explanation is that he was wet for prolonged periods of time, so either was exposed to the elements, unnecessarily or judging from the way he smelled, was allowed to sit in dirty kennels for prolonged periods of time. I requested the owner contact me and have yet to hear from anyone at Preppy Pet. This saddens me because it may be a problem that couldāve been avoided or certainly needed to be addressed, but I will never ever return my dog again to...

I recently boarded my dogs at Preppy Pet Ladson and I couldn't be more impressed with the care and attention they received. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel completely at ease. They were warm, professional, and clearly passionate about animals.
Both of my dogs have different personalities, one is energetic and playful, while the other is more reserved and the team made sure each of them had a tailored experience that suited their needs. I received regular updates, including photos and and texts back and forth, which gave me peace of mind and made me smile throughout my trip.
The facility itself was clean, secure, and well-maintained, with plenty of space for playtime and rest. I especially appreciated how attentive the staff were to feeding schedules, medications, and special instructions.
When I picked my dogs up, they were happy, healthy, and clearly had a great time. Itās such a relief to know thereās a place I can trust completely when I need to travel.
Highly recommend to any pet parent looking for top-notch care and genuine love for animals. Weāll definitely be back!
Not sure what has transformed there in the past month, but the overwhelming of just genuine happiness and warmth when walking in made my wife and I feel so grateful. One of my dogs had a potty accident, I asked to speak to one of them because the dog seemed so clean when picking them up. She explained that my dog had an accident and walked thru it with her paws, and simply gave her a bath. It just showed how much they cared and we were really impressed just by the attention to detail and simply love for the animals.
Iām genuinely so happy with this boarding facility and how itās being run. I have went to other friends who boards their dogs at another facility, and let them know our experience at Preppy Pet and they are going to make an appointment in the month of August.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy dog has been going here for years, but not any more. A new owner took over in 2025 and it just isn't the same. My dog came home with a very deep puncture wound in Feb 2025. When I called and spoke to the owner, he did not acknowledge any incident and said he'd have to call me back. My vet told me it looked more like my dog flung himself into something. When I called to share this with him, he became very defensive and said they look over everything and pick up all debris all the time. He never called me back, it was always me calling him to ask or follow up and give updates. I had to take my dog to the vet for 3 weeks and he was on antibiotics until it healed. The last boarding experience was the end. I called ahead (6hrs) to tell them my pick up time. When I got there, they had to "find" where all his belongings were! He was on medication and he didn't get 2 doses. The new owner doesn't seem to care about the dogs themselves. He is only about the dollars coming in and not about any customer service. The communication is very poor....especially at drop off. I had several occasions where I've texted (their policy) and waited up to 15 min for a response. The staff keeps getting younger and more irresponsible. After reading a post on lost and found pets, I had to post...
