College Park Vet has treated my 17 year old litter mate cats (Make and Ko) since we arrived in Charleston in 2012. Maka acquired Kidney Disease (2 years ago). Upon diagnosis we just got kidney diet food (no meds). During this time CPV has been treating him (basically weigh ins and subQ treatments).
In February his health declined and he went into stage 2. CPV added hypertension meds and we increased his subQ treatments.
He had a rapid decline Sunday, June 8. The only appointment I could get at CPV Monday was a tech appointment for subQ fluids. I was able to get a Tuesday appointment with a vet. His bloodwork now indicated he was in stage 4 and the vet told me he needed hospitalization to get IV Fluids. Since no one was at the clinic after 6, I ended up brining my 17 year old cat in daily for fluids. He was getting weaker and his bloodwork did not show improvement to I ended his treatment after 4 days but continued bringing him in for subQ treatment (as that was not as hard on his body). When they discharged him from the hospitalization they gave me two additional meds (phosphorous blocker and anemia meds). I do not know why they waiting until he was stage 4 to give me these meds when if I had them in February when he was stage 2 I might have been able to extend his life. Actually if I had them two years ago when he was first diagnosed I may have my Make a couple more years.
On Saturday, June 22 Make declined terribly. He was suffering and it was time to let him go. Because of all of the trips into the vet (we live 20 miles away), I did not want for that to be his last experience.
I called College Park Vet and asked if they could come to my house and do the procedure. They do offer this service. I was told someone would call me back. They did not call me back. I called again. I still did not receive a call back. It was now Tuesday and after my third call, I was told, "I do believe we called you back". They know darn well they did not. "We cannot come to your home as it is 40 minutes away". It is 30 minutes away and that was the same drive Maka endured 7 back and forth trips in the last 10 days to the tune of thousands of dollars.
A different service, Mobile Vet, lovingly did the procedure on Tuesday at my home. They notified CPV that Maka has passed and the only word I have heard from CPV since Maka passed was a reminder that his medicine is ready for auto ship.
To make matters worse, Make was diagnosed two years prior and not until he was in stage 4 did they give him anemia meds or phosphate blockers.
College Park Vet is an assembly line vet. They do not care about your loved fur babies. Or perhaps they have too many animals and cannot offer proper vet care. Regardless, my Maka suffered.
I have pulled Maka's litter mate from CPV. If you use CPV just know, they will not be there for your baby in their final hours (well, they will happily charge you to bring them in and put them down in a clinical setting).
I do not normally write reviews but in this case, I do so for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been bringing our pets here for over 11 years and throughout the years our service is usually wonderful, we have had some not great experiences with other vets or office staff but we never complained and chalked it up as staffing issues etc. 3 out of my 4 pets were seen this week: had appointments spread out on 2 days with Dr. Hooper who we love and prefer our pets to see. She is kind, compassionate, thorough, and great at follow up. 1st visit we took Diamond and Wednesday to see Dr. Hooper, great visit took time to talk through some weight concerns on Wednesday; didnāt feel rushed. Next day I bring Arnie, a cat: Dr. Hooper was called into an emergency which sometimes happens, Dr. Caughey has seen my pets and we have never had an issue with his assessments of our pets. Arnie became very stressed so the exam was done in the back, Dr. Caughey still came back to let me know how the exam went. Unfortunately, the vet tech said Arnie projectile vomited, she asked if thatās a usual thing and I said heās never vomited like that. We agreed likely due to stress. Poor Arnie is now dripping vomit from his face, get him home clean him up and let him decompress. My issue is with what follows: I called the next day, reported that Arnie refused dinner and breakfast and I was concerned. I explained what happened at the visit, was told it would be conveyed to Dr. Caughey and that Iād get a call back. I didnāt want to just run him to the vet since that seems to be the cause of the trauma. I never received a call, still havenāt. Arnie still has not eaten a full meal since his visit, he is licking gravy off his wet cat food. When you spend almost $600 in 2 days I guess Iām disappointed that there was no follow up on how Arnie is doing, and no call back after I voiced concern the next day. This was likely a breakdown in communication but I expect more from a practice weāve been entrusting our babies health with for years. In the past when weāve brought our pets in for not feeling well(example ear infection) we received a call the next day to check on our baby. This visit Arnie left unwell and there was no follow up, and even after calling we have not heard back with voiced concern. Love this practice, usually happy with the service and care just disappointed...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreToday was my first experience at college park vet I had made a new patient appointment a day before for my new 11 week pup I had for just two days but then he woke up sick and acting different in just 48 hrs. Every new pet owners worst fear!! I have a hectic work schedule so all the available appointments where taken! So I was desperate and made an appointment with another place! To my surprise the receptionist called me back about my pup to get some information about him and how an appointment was opened in a day but then she even went further and said to bring him that very day (today) and they will see him and fit him in. I feel and I know she could hear how worried and stressed I was for my new pup!!! I knew they cared just from making room for him and that they are about the care and well being of my pup! I was able to bring my little pup in right away and the staff was great!!! From the front desk ladies to the kind vet technician kristie and the veterinarian!! My pup was the star of the show!! It was even nice that they took him to a separate area to service him, knowing me I couldnāt bare seeing my pup getting poked even thought itās for the best! Lol! I loved the staff they made me and my pup feel like family and my little Roscoe was the absolute star of the show!!! I could even hear how nicely the staff spoke to one another as I was waiting for my pup! To me that is a great atmosphere not only for us pet parents but for my little one! And even to mention the prices were great!!! Very affordable especially with a new pup and the many tests they require to get the best care to be healthy!! So please take the extra time and effort to bring your animals here!!! My pup is happy and back home playing and his mommy (me) has peace of mind that he got great care and is on his way to a happy and healthy life with our family!! Thank you College park...
