I don't understand what is happening, but when we buy food at this Food Lion, it all smells and tastes like either detergent or fabric softener and cigarettes. The smoking at the doors is non stop and we will have to sit and wait for an employee or customer to stop smoking and it to air out before we can even walk in, so we thought maybe it was getting in the doors and the produce section was absorbing some of the smell... but then it's the crusts of the bread too. If it's in a thin plastic wrapper, the chemical and cigaretter smell and taste is overwhelming and leaves me wondering how the stock room is being handled. I wouldn't be surprised because the generations in the workforce now have to be educated on not storing or bagging chemicals with food and it blows my mind. Even high end grocery deilvery companies, like thrive, have to be reminded that shipping chemicals and food together isn't a good idea. Either that or someone stocking the broccoli is taking their cigarette smoke saturated jacket off, and laying it on top of the broccoli before stocking it, because even when I unwrapped the broccoli, it still had the smell on it that had seeped in the holes of the wrapper... fabric softener and cigarettes. I just chunked it in the trash. Now I'm picking off the crusts of my Dave's Organic Bread, because the bottom crust smells and tastes like the scent of detergent. This does not happen at any other grocery store we shop at. Just this one. Not Lowe's, not Harris Teeter, not BJ's, not some other Food Lions. Just this one. Some would say, then shop somewhere else. Well, we live so close to this one, we could throw a rock and hit it from our neighborhood (slight exaggeration, but still not far off). It would be nice if we could buy food at our neighborhood Food Lion that doesn't smell or taste like various chemical fragrances and cigarettes. The whole store has a "smell" of stale cigarettes and fabric softener, and it's on our clothes and in our hair when we leave, so it definitely is saturated into the food we buy....
Read moreThis is addressed to Corporate so plz forward: Most of the time, everyone in this store is very courteous, however, tdy was a different story. LSS, self checkout is a nightmare at peak times, AWAs parking, I might add . I was there about 3 pm, not my norm so not usually a problem . A customer cut in front of me. I was off to side of the invisible "line". She proceeded to tell me that hers was the line. Said I wasn't aware but I was there first, which she clearly knew. My cart was positioned for the one available when she cut in front of me. Told her I was there first, regardless of the invisible line on Aisle 10. There was a clerk standing there and I told her something needed to b done about "awareness" of "Aisle 10" being 'the line for self checkout ". Mark it or something! She twirled around when I asked for the manager and said, " his name is Rodney, why don't I just call him!". She knows who she is, BTW). I said, please do. Rodney (obviously very inexperienced in customer service) and I had a discussion when I told him what happened (I realize he's not responsible for "bully" customers). She left the floor, BTW. He didn't apologize for her but "I realize there's a problem ". That girl should NOT b working in Customer service. She shd've apologized and offered to ring me up at Customer Service. If it were my employee, she wud've been fired on the spot. I've been shopping there 6 yrs after relocating from Houston to care for my elderly sister now in Assisted Living. I was a personal shopper at Nordstrom and I'm NOT a DIVA, by any stretch, but whether it's high end or a grocery, you DO NOT TALK AND ACT THAT WAY TO CUSTOMERS.....PERIOD! How do you think Harris Teeter wud've handled it. You already know the answer. If Rodney can't create some sort of civilized organization, he shd leave as well. I'm there 2-3 times/ week and spend a lotta $$$$$ in that store. Unfortunately theres no other choice unless I wanna drive to store on Maple. Plz...
Read moreUpper Tier Neighborhood store! I usually do my regular shopping between Costco & Walmart due to lower prices, and get 'quick' items at Food Lion. While the service is OK, their 'promos' are not really such, as the 'regular price' is jacked up to cover BOGO Free items. Still, it's good to have Food Lion around, can remember the old days when they nearly eradicated their competition.
Food Lion could do more business with an in store pharmacy, such as Costco & Walmart offers. Overall, I rank the store between a Walmart and the JustSave down the street, with the positives being a cleaner store & fresher meat & produce. Staff wise, Food Lion is OK, yet can do better. When I pressed to get cash after a purchase, the cashier closed the register drawer instead of handing me $20. Being the customer behind me had only one item, allowed that person to checkout rather than wait for a manager & got my cash. Haven't been to the store since.
Yet my wife goes there often, to get their 'deli' meats, which is a huge step behind ADLI, Lowes & Harris Teeter, but she's satisfied & since she eats the junk, it's fine by me.
If one can make it there before closing, beer is lower in cost than the Sheetz down the...
