Gene's Family Market — Local services in Grant

Ordered a full sheet cake a week and a half in advance and asked for buttercream frosting. The details that I asked for were GREAT, but when I went to cut into it, it was whipped frosting not buttercream like I ask or ordered. When I contacted them about it, they checked the order form twice and seen that buttercream was circles, they asked me if the cake was eaten, and I wasn't going to tell 100 people they couldn't eat it because it wasn't what I ordered. They asked me what I wanted done about it so I told them they made the mistake what are you going to do about it, and they asked me if it got ate and there was only a quarter left so they said they couldn't give me half off, but they could give me 20.00 back. They told me that they had just got done with a wedding cake, so they probably picked up the wrong piping bag, to me that is no excuse when you're paying good money for it So, if you order from the bakery make sure it is what you asked for before leaving the store. Disappointed in the lack of quality in the meat department. This location used to be known for high quality local meats. The customer service person in this department told me the new owners are getting the meat from a Spartan warehouse in Indiana. Also, very disappointed in the "Our Family" brand for dairy products. Sour cream was like yogurt consistency. Sub-par quality. Huge quantities of Dean's and Hudsonville Ice cream, both state on their label that their ice cream contains artificial and natural ingredients. Yet they carry a limited supply of Breyer's Ice cream whom is famous for only natural ingredients. I will give them 1 star for carrying some locally grown produce and adding Kombucha to their grab and go individual drinks, not...

You know, at first glance, Gene's might not seem like anything super special. However, consider all the cold, sterile, fully automated stores you visit today - no heart, no character - just, "Move along bi-pedal number. Get your items, give us your money and leave." This is NOT Gene's. The heart is there, the character is there. A real butcher and deli section. A corkboard up front to advertise your trailer, motorbike (or just about anything) for sale (how often do you still see that these days?!) Some really good sales items which the advertise clearly on the sign in the parking lot. Exotic items as well as down to earth favorites. I've NEVER had an instance where employees were rude...
