Fluff Alpaca — Local services in Great Barrington

I was profiled while shopping at this store as a person of color. I’ve vacationed in great barrington multiple times over the past few years and am very familiar with the stores. I went to buy a few things that I saw through the window. I tried on a linen set and as I waked out of the dressing area, an older blonde sales associate came up to me and asked me if I tried them on, when I said yes she grabbed them out of my hands without saying a word and left. I followed her, feeling very uncomfortable since she didn’t say where she was going and saw her placing them back on the rack. I went up to her and told her I was buying the set and she looked surprised and I then took them from her to buy at the register. All of a sudden she became more welcoming once she realized I was buying but had assumed that I wasn’t going to get anything. I do not believe this would have happened to someone else without brown skin. I was very disappointed and uncomfortable and it made the rest of my party in the store uncomfortable as well (one of them being a resident). I bought the outfit because I really wanted it but will not be returning or recommending this place to any of my friends that visit...

I visited Fluff Alpaca yesterday to do some Christmas Shopping for some very "particular" family members. The store had a great selection of gloves, mittens, glittens and wrist warmers as well as socks, clothing, childrens' items and household accessories. It's a beautiful shop and the customer service was fabulous! I love that the children's' accessories are available for an age range (2-4 years in my case). Since quality alpaca outerwear is a little pricey, it's nice to know that a child can get 2-3 years of wear from an adorable hat and gloves. The shop had a nice selection of clothing and gifts and their return policy is very reasonable. I drove down to Great Barrington from Nassau, NY through Pittsfield, MA, which took about an hour. I drove back home through Egremont/Austerlitz and was back home in 40 minutes. I didn't realize I was so close! I will definitely be returning to Fluff Alpaca. Fluff Alpaca is a family run shop with unique, beautifully handmade clothing and accessories. I had the good fortune of finding it on the web while looking for an alpaca throw as a more affordable alternative to a cashmere throw. An array of gorgeous colors plus the soft, luxurious feel we wanted along with reasonable prices made our decision an easy one.
