I was genuinely surprised that no one had ever suggested this place to me, especially since Iâve been asking around for local carpet recommendations and live just 10 minutes away. After this appalling experience, I now understand why. This was, without a doubt, the worst customer service encounter Iâve ever had in my entire life.
I walked into this rundown carpet store on Rt 22 with an open mind and a good friend who is a high-end interior designer. Despite Google saying they closed in 75 minutes, the store was dark and locked. A woman who resembled Carla Grundwal begrudgingly came from her car to let us in. From the very start, her attitude was hostile and condescending.
I had brought some samples of Shaw and Phenix carpet to compare, but I wasnât committed to any specific brand or price point, which I clearly stated. She snatched them from my hand without asking and disappeared to turn off the alarm, leaving us locked outside for several minutes. Upon letting us in, her first question was not about what we were looking for, but how much we were willing to spend. Despite repeatedly telling her I didnât have a set budget and was just exploring patterns, she rudely insisted I give the price of my samples, only to turn her nose up at it.
She led us into a cigarette smoke-filled warehouse of carpet remnants, which were far from what I was looking for. The few carpets that caught our attention in the showroom were quickly dismissed with a sneering âtoo expensive for youâ remark. My friend, who routinely works on multi-million dollar projects in NYC, was appalled. When we asked about the materials, she arrogantly dodged the question, claiming they were "high-end European carpets." After further inspection, my friend read the fine print behind one sample and discovered that the carpet was just polyester. Her evasiveness and dishonesty only added to the insult.
It was clear from the start that this woman judged us by appearance and assumed we werenât worth her time. If sheâd spent even a moment treating us with an ounce of professionalism, I would have gladly spent $10k. But after such a demeaning, unprofessional, and downright offensive experience, I wouldnât take her carpets if they were free. Avoid this place at all costs. Youâll find more hospitality...
Read moreNot sure about other peopleâs experiences, but weâve been in town for over 30 years, and Carpet Exchange has been in town since the 70s. Itâs a family owned business, and my experience was nothing but amazing.
I went in on a random Saturday to see what they had in stock. I have 2 bedrooms that needed new carpet/rug, and I originally went in with the intention of just getting a carpet scrap converted to a rug. Ms. Sandra was amazing. She helped explain the process, and walked me through their extensive inventory on site. She also helped provide some expert advice to ensure the color/feel of the carpet was what I was looking for and worked for the wall color. I know nothing about warm and cool tones, but she helped me get to a perfect shade. Price was perfectly within market standard.
She did inform me that Iâll need to speak with her son on the option of rug binding vs carpet installation. Her son CJ called me Tuesday first thing, and was actually able to share the pros and cons of both, and wasnât pushy about the more costly option. He actually was able to have his crew come same day to install. đ¤Ż
As for his crew, they were professional and were mindful to take their shoes off before entering the house. They were in and out in under 2 hours for 1 room.
I just went back today to select carpeting for the 2nd room, and to my luck Ms. Sandra was there. She again took her time to find me the best option of color/feel for the carpet. She is so down to earth, and a genuine lady. Theyâve been in town for a very long time.
Honestly not sure about other peopleâs experiences, but my experience with the family has been nothing but top notch. I wonât go anywhere else now for my carpeting needs. Support local, support small business. You really get that...
Read moreMy husband and I bought 2 large carpets from carpet exchange. We paid up front and received a difficult time when we wanted to have the carpets delivered (30min away). We received pushback when we asked for delivery, and repeatedly was asked if we could fit the carpets in our car. The salesman seemed not to be able to do basic math. When he added the numbers he added an extra $100, that my husband indicated was wrong. When they did deliver the carpets they did not set them up so we had no idea that they did not cut the rug pads to the right size and that the rug pads were 2 pieces each. When we bought the rug pads with the carpets I feel we were mislead Because we were under the impression that the rug pads were 1 piece, we were not told otherwise. When I called and complained, I was cursed at and told I was not laying them right but to bring them back in. I brought them in and they were cut incorrectly, I never received an apology. 1 person cuts things by hand so there is definitely a wide margin for error and the pads were not cut on a totally straight edge. They also cut out a chunk from the end and just told us to tape it with duct tape. The part of the pad that was cut is so uneven and obvious when walked in, Iâm embarrassed. Additionally, there is carpet pooling out of the binding. We purchased the rugs March 2019 and I feel very dissatisfied with my purchase. We spent over $1000 for 2 large rugs, rug pads and delivery and I feel like the overall quality from the delivery to the product is sub par. I will not recommend carpet exchange to anyone I know. Please consider other options if you are thinking of buying...
