Red White & Que Smokehouse, a really nice vibe, friendly staff and delicious BBQ.
Bottom line the BBQ is just delicious and it's what you imagined a great BBQ to taste like. Fall off the bone, smokey, tender and full of flavor.
Seating is informal, no table service. Order at counter and pick up your meal which will be assembled on a tray. Outside seating on rustic wood picnic tables available.
We ordered and sat outside and a server ran out order out to us which was great so maybe I misspoke about no table service.
Takeout available.
From what I understand they close when they run out of BBQ. Could this be true or is this local lore??
When we ordered at the counter the person ran through a short list of what they were out of - probably the most popular items - darn!
Wide variety of meats, cuts, smokes available as sandwich or platter.
Takeout - yes and they seem to do a lot of it.
Are you the saucey type? You'll find a large assortment of squeeze bottles with different sauces with interesting names. Little plastic cups with lids to fill up and sample.
Flavortown!? Yes, I believe the original Red White & Que Smokehouse got a visit and high marks from Mr. Flavortown, diner dive rater himself, Guy Fieri. This is not the original though.
I believe these are independently and veteran owned and operated franchises but I didn't look into it but it seemed like a great thing.
Seemingly plenty of parking but when we got there there was only two spots left. A large lot of a furniture store is ALWAYS empty and I'm sure you could use that as overflow...just in case.
Place was hopping when we got there at peak lunch and a lot of take out orders were being prepared.
Our order did take a while to get completed but when I walked in to fill up on some sauce they had just pulled a large side of smoked meat on to a butcher block and we're in the process of trimming it to fill orders.
This is just to convey that smoked meat is coming right out of the smoker and being cut immediately. So, this makes Red White and Que Smokehouse really unique in my book.
Around back there is a small smoker house puffing away. So if you were wondering I guess they smoke...
Read moreGreat atmosphere. I requested a Sandwich not listed on the Menu, Brisket and Sausage. I was told by the Cashier, let me check...so he asked the Meat Cutter....her response..."Sure....and just ring it up as a Brisket."
She was friendly, and accommodating. This place was voted the Best BBQ restaurant in NJ. I can understand why.
The food was delicious, with large portions. Two gentlemen sitting next to us actually owned a BBQ restaurant in DE. They had nothing but great things to say too.
Incidentally, they make their own sausage (Delicious!) and the Beans weren't Canned, they make them themselves. Great ingredients, made with love.
So as soon as the place slowed down, we were visited by the "Meat Cutter" inquiring about the food.
Come to find out, she and her husband were the owners. I explained I lived in Kansas City for many years, considered myself a BBQ Snob; her BBQ was as good, if not better than the many iconic BBQ restaurants Kansas City is famous for.
They sell Restaurant Merchandise, and my brother, my niece, and I all walked out with Tee-Shirts. I explained, I usually don't buy Restaurant Merchandise, however, I have no problem wearing this shirt....I will tell everyone how great her restaurant is.
I thanked her for the incredible experience, and mentioned that I'd be writing a review.....and her restaurant and staff Rocks.
So I highly encourage you to try this Restaurant. The food, the staff, the portion size were all 5 Stars. Definitely a destination, even if you're not from the area. (My brother is local, I live in PA.)
Incidentally, they love Military Folks and First Responders, and offer a Discount.
When asked if I was Military or First Responder, I advised....Former First Responder, Retired Military. I showed my ID Card and received the largest discount I had ever received at a Restaurant.
I truly understand why this place has "Top Honors" in NJ. An incredible experience, and I'll be back, next time for Ribs.
Hope to...

Stopped in here today for the first time while doing errands and boy and I am glad I did!
Let’s start with the reception. As I walked in I was greeted by Katie, who is one of the owners, with a friendly, bubbly, and pleasant greeting and welcome. Katie’s recommended the 1/4 brisket as this wa my first time and I wanted a semi-light lunch. As I waited for my order I was able to speak with Katie a little more and found her to have an infectious personality.
Katie’s introduced me to the other owner, her husband Dan who is a Marine veteran. He too had a great personality.
Initially my order was to go; however, if you are going to have brisket you have to sit down and enjoy the experience; thus, upon receiving my order I chose to sit inside and enjoy. So glad I did!
As soon as I opened the wrapped order of brisket I was hit with the sweet aroma of perfectly barbecued meat. I was so excited about tasting the brisket that I dove right in before taking a picture; hence, the photos of the meat slather in sauce and already eaten. The brisket was a perfect medium rare with the right seasoning, char, meat, and fat ratio.
The meat is cooked so perfectly that it falls apart and melts in your mouth…dang…my mouth is watering and I just finished eating!
It would be a sin to eat this brisket with a fork, but hey, that is just me.
The other thing I like about this place is the variety of sauces. I tried the sweet Que, the Alabama White, and the Pepper Espresso which was my favorite.
The ambience and decor are also great.
I cannot wait to come here on a completely empty stomach so I can partake in ALL of the other items which I am sure are going to be just as tasty and grey as the brisket.
A must stop if you have the time. And if you do not have the time...
