We were in town for a business trip and stayed a few extra days for fun. We stumbled upon The Cheese Wheel and found they offered a cheese and charcuterie board in store and had wines also available by the glass.
The owner helped us choose three great cheeses for our board including a Brillat Savrin which really the star of the show. Triple creamy it paired well with everything. The board had crackers and crostinis as well as pickled onions, cornichons, grapes, salami and two spreads- apple butter and fig paste. We added some blue cheese stuffed olives and some thinly-sliced mortadella to our order.
Wines by the glass are available in machines that pour 1, 3 or 5 ounces. We tried four different wines. There are four whites and four reds available.
The heart of their business is offering over 250 cheeses available for purchase. They have some charcuterie available as well. Definitely worth a trip to check them out, for a meal or to get great cheeses for yourself or...
Read moreThis shop is top notch. Delicious, European cheeses, 300 to be exact. After being warmly welcomed by Denise, I told her I needed help putting together a cheese plate for an impromptu visit with some college friends. Denise graciously introduced me to her son, Michael, who is a cheese pro! After sampling quite a few cheeses (yes, they offer complimentary tastings before you buy), I chose an Ossau-Iraty, a Clothbound Cheddar, a Blue Shropshire and a Taleggio. Michael also suggested pairings including mustards, honeys, jam, and vino. I chose a drunken mustard, a honeycomb peach & clementine reserve, a few baguettes, a Prosecco Rose, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Pinot Noir. The selections were a huge hit with my friends. Michael gave me some inside scoop too... they soon will be serving grilled cheeses (my fave). Wonder if they will be sandwiches or paninis? Either way, I cannot wait! This first-class, family-owned and operated biz is a fabulous addition...
Read moreThis was a case of dashed expectations. I definitely expected a lot of very unique cheeses I had never seen or tried before! I was expecting an introduction to a fun world of cheese and new discoveries.
However. They advertise over 100 cheeses, but when we arrived we found ONE deli case with cheese in it, none of which were anything unique or piqued my interest at all. There was another case behind the counter that held cheese, but nothing I could peruse since it was behind the counter. They had another deli case with meats in it. And literally that was it. I was really disappointed! I have definitely been around the block a few times when it comes to charcuterie meats and cheeses, and I have created a lot of really beautiful platters and boards in the past couple years. I can definitively say that I wouldn't go back here. It just wasn't anything proprietary that would entice me to spend $35+ per...
