IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR DO NOT SHOP HERE! Racial profiling like crazy here. My boyfriend is Black and disabled and ON A HOVER ROUND and was followed by loss prevention from the time we came in. He moved wherever we were and started AS SOON AS WE WALKED THROUGH THE DOOR. There is NO probable cause or suspicious activity to speak to if we haven’t barely stepped into the store! Even though I’m Asian and also a racial minority, he didn’t follow me when we separated. We saw him walk through an employee door so we know he’s not a regular shopper- he’s loss prevention and blatant discrimination is NOT part of his job description! Not to mention lots of other people were in groups or being loud and disruptive in the aisles we were in. We were mainly in the toy area and we never acted anything close to suspicious. How much damage or stealing would a Black disabled person in a hover round be able to do in the toy aisle??? And how would he know if we were stealing if you followed us from the time we walked in??
I told the manager on staff, Giddeon, and he called his behavior “over-zealous”, which to me is minimizing and reductive. It’s not a simple “over-zealous” work ethic- it’s racist. I am expecting a call from the store director ASAP. This was a complete and utter lack of respect and a deeply upsetting experience overall. Little did anyone in this store know my boyfriend and I have masters degrees and his is in cybersecurity forensics and criminal justice. The IRONY. We have been to many Meijers in Indianapolis, but we will NEVER be back to this location. Not to mention we had over $200-$300 of merchandise in our carts and were planning to be loyal customers to Meijer tonight, so you cost your employer money and future business with your ignorant behavior, sir. We spend this much at Meijer every week and this location was about to be the same, but blatantly racially profiling my partner is how Meijer will lose us as customers. Don’t go to this location if you’re not white, expect to be followed. If they can hire someone who thinks like this, who profiles immediately at the sight of a Black man rolling in on his hover round through the door, in a VERY obvious way, imagine what else goes unnoticed or is endorsed by management. I expect the director or upper management to take action and ask this loss prevention associate to explain his logic behind following my partner as soon as we came in. If I don’t hear from Meijer within the next week this will be escalated as far as we...
Read moreIn comparing this Meijer to the new one in Franklin, Franklin is much better. The store has a much better and fresher produce selection, better stocked overall and in my personal experience very friendly employees. I personally will not be making a trip to this Meijer if I can avoid it since my last 2 visits several months apart have been equally disappointing.
I do enjoy Meijer as a store when compared to other big box stores, however. Meijer has a great selection of products. Their sales, especially on name brand items cannot be beat. Keep in mind that a product not on sale may be more expensive, but by stocking up on sale items you can save a ton of money. Mperks is also a great way to save and doesn't require clipping for all of the rewards. I can almost always find good clearance items on something I intend to buy whenever I go, whether it be groceries, baby products, clothing, etc.
I also prefer many of their store brand items and "true goodness" brand on many products. I am a shopper who reads labels and I avoid chemicals, preservatives, and colors in my food whenever possible. While I would love to just buy organic, it's too expensive for everything. I find Meijer offers more products at a store brand level with better ingredients and I have read a lot of labels. Just be mindful that not everything in their store brand avoids bad ingredients, I have just been happy with the selection on common items we buy (ex. cereal, bread, pb). They do carry a lot of organic and specialty items too.
Overall, I really like Meijer just not the Greenwood...
Read moreAhh, good old meijer, always has everything, always clean and bright. Always the 1 cent horsie "Sandy" for children to ride after all these years. Thank you for being there Meijer. I always feel at home if I find a Meijer when out of state too. As reliable as the day is long. And now that I've stopped buying things made in China, I've been able to find things I need here not made in China. Unwaxed Meijer dental floss made in usa, Colgate toothbrush made in Switzerland, motts small apple juice bottles made in Ukraine and Poland, treetop apple juice usa (apple juice is hard to find not china anymore), I can even get aurora stuffed animals here, Not made in China! Meijer paper plates, usa. Also Meijer brand Greek yogurt is delicious. Meijer brand organic milk is better than kroger or Walmart, and not more expensive! Meijer brand white bread is better than kroger brand or Walmart. Meijer brand rawhide chews are not made in China here! And the dog loves them. Meijer has more hamburger sales and their meat is better. Their bakery is better. Their cheese and cheese prices are better! (wrapped). The checkouts are better. And of course, always in a safe neighborhood. Thank you Meijer for all your years of faithful service to the American...
