Read moreI took up needlepointing about a year ago and I make a point to visit local shops whenever I travel. This shop was pretty disappointing. I went in to kit the What a Gem medium emerald. The store was well stocked in specialty threads like Very Velvet and silk and ivory. The canvas selection was lacking. Not a great modern canvas options or great lighting to get a true understanding of the colors. If thats what youâre looking for, drive an hour and go to Lycette in Newport. The worst part was when we checked out. The store owner took the pay machine to The Spring Market, leaving the store without a way to process credit cards. It would have made sense to tell me this before I chose my fibers, or just close the store for the day. So when I was ready to pay, the woman wrote down my credit card details and said Iâd be charged on Monday. OkayâŚ. But then. I was waiting for her to write everything down and she asked when my baby is due. Iâm not pregnant. Iâm also not fat, just wearing a long loose fitting dress. Yikes. Maybe donât asked women you donât know such personal questions. Very...
Read moreHorrific. I purchased a pretty $155 10âsq needlepoint canvas. The owner (Catherine) calculated the amount of yarn reqâd using her âexpert formulaâ and assured me there was more than enough yarn to complete the design & solid color background. Using the yarn strands down to the last inch, I ran out of yarn, leaving a whopping 4â section of the background unfinished. The owner took zero responsibility for her âexpertâ yarn miscalculation and sent me more yarn (from a different dye lot that didnât match) which rendered the canvas (and my countless hours) worthy only of the trash. Her âbest offerâ was for me to rip out the entire needlepoint, buy more yarn from her, and start all over again. Really?!? Luckily, American Express agreed that the owner was at fault and refunded...
