I am now a former employee. When I first got the job I was very excited to get the opportunity to work for a very known company in this world. I had started out in the deli department and was doing very well, I had received a lot of special âworld class performanceâ awards for great customer service, hard work, and speed in what I did. Because of what I had accomplished I was promoted to the the food service department, and immediately tried to accomplish the same things I had done during my deli career. This is where things started to turn around, my first 5 months in the food service department I was completely mistrained and left alone to make over 40 party pizzas in a day while having to take my lunches sometimes with an hour after I had started my shift and then not receive another break for about 5 hours after... Now being full time the company allows 1 30 minute lunch, and 2 15 minute breaks per 8 hour shift. I was in the food service department for over a year basically walking into work knowing that i was going to have to go through hell THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. After the company had figured out that they had left one of their full time employees alone without basic training they had brought in a new manager to speed up my process. The manager quickly recognized my talent and helped me move forward. Soon enough I was in almost complete control on how to make pizzas! I was feeling good about the job once again! But my title when I took the full time position was a âfood service specialistâ. I had told management I needed to learn the entire department to move up in the company, management refused to train me saying ânobody else wanted to make pizzaâ . I took that as a challenge and tried to make the best out of my situation still being alone and have to take breaks early or none at all. As my career in the food service department went on I was harassed by numerous employees swearing at me, saying I had no friends, and even the current deli manager assaulting me on one of my breaks. I had told the current store director Tom Socha that a manager assaulted me and that other employees had been completely rude! The company as a whole did nothing about it! I tried to continue my job but always had to watch my back which isnât something any employee should have to do! At any job! All these incidents had happened about 2 months ago in June. And after that almost every single manager In the store had treated me like complete dirt! I received daily compliments from customers And regional directors! I was just recently let go talking about the âjeepers creepersâ horror movie to another employee! Because of how they treated me I will no longer shop there and I donât recommend anybody else to shop or apply for work there! That store treats their...
Read moreThe selection is decent. It's pretty standard for a grocery store, but it can get pricey. My biggest complaint is with the staff. They are extremely rude. They either ignore you or insult you. I don't expect much from grocery store employees, help is generally not needed when I grocery shop, but I do expect some sort of human decency and courteous interaction. During one visit, I approached the pizza counter and two female employees were standing around looking at one's cell phone. Another employee walked passed them and said guest at the counter. They continued to ignore me and stare at the phone. I assumed since they knew I was there I didn't have to call for attention. I waited for a few minutes before I finally gave up and walked away. As I was walking away, I heard one of the females saying "She didn't need any help". She then proceeded to yell at me "You didn't need any help, right?" Maybe she should have gotten off the phone and asked without yelling down the store. Another visit I had said "excuse me" several times to an employee who was stocking, because I needed something he was blocking. He proceeded to ignore me, and I had to wait for him to finish before grabbing what I needed. It only took a few seconds for me to grab it. Granted, it was only 1-2 minutes before he finished, but completely ignoring a customer is rude. A woman at the seafood counter also told me I should be smiling. It's not like I was frowning or angry, but apparently it didn't please her that I wasn't walking around the store with a grin on my face. This after we had to repeat our order 5 times before she finally got it. She should focus more on doing her job and less on my facial expressions. The customer service counter is a joke. Unfortunately this is the closest store to us, but I think we'll drive a bit further next time, so we don't have to be insulted...
Read moreI visited the Groton store this evening 3/24/23 at around 7:00pm. I wanted to order grinders for my two sons and myself. I went to the sandwich counter where the lady working that area asked if she could help me. After that the rest of the experience was horrible.I asked for a large meatball grinder. She quickly responded â we donât have any meatballs â. I said ok Iâll take a large roast beef. She again quickly responded âwe donât have any roast beefâ. I asked well what do you have available for hot grinders? She said we have Italian sausage. I said ok let me call my son real quick to see how he would like that. In the meantime my younger son ordered his grinder. After she finishes with the first she asked what else I wanted as Iâm on the phone asking my son and repeating back to her. As Iâm telling her she keeps impatiently interrupting as sheâs staring at me and listening to me ask him. Now feeling rushed Iâm passing my frustration along on my son. She startâs making the sausage grinder without the ingredients I told her. Iâm guessing because she was talking over me and not really listening. I realized she didnât put mayo on the grinder so I reminded her that I wanted mayo. She then dumps everything off the grinder onto the counter and sarcastically says âmayo on a sausage grinderâ. At this point I didnât even bother ordering my own meal because I could clearly see the woman was miserable and didnât want to be bothered. This is the first time of all my visits to any Big Y that Iâve encountered such a negative experience. Itâs worth noting it wasnât busy and there wasnât anyone...
