The Ju Sushi in Groton on route 12 / route 1 is a tiny little building that is easy to miss, but once you find it, you're set. They offer a good-sized menu for a two person operation (which is really one chef!).
The sushi is outstanding. I have eaten high quality sushi in Japan, including some top notch otoro, and Ju Sushi easily comes close to that level of quality. Sushi pieces are large and flavorful. The special rolls are to die for. The Lion King and Alligator rolls are so flavorful! Their eel is very good too, and it is rare to find a sushi place that does eel well, as it is hard to cook properly.
Whether you go to the Groton location or the one in Mystic (which I have yet to visit), you need to get some of this sushi. Prices are definitely reasonable, speed is good, presentation is also great, and the final product is simply fantastic.
Edit: I want to add that as of October 30th, 2016, this location is moving to 1043 Poquonnock Road. I have seen their sign proclaiming this and wanted to share it with all of you fellow sushi lovers so you don't miss out! Hopefully this review and...
Read moreI hate to say it but I really have to dock one star for my review of this place. I know that many restaurants have been struggling over the last year with Corona but this place is run by a single old man who really just doesn't have the ability to do it all by himself anymore.
He's consistently overwhelmed at the counter trying to answer the phone, ring people out and make food all at the same time. He desperately needs an assistant. This is leading to him confusing orders or preparing them wrong.
There may also be a language barrier or he may be getting hard of hearing. Today I was yelled at for not having my receipt when I came back to pick up my food even though he never gave it to me because he was on a phone call at the time when I signed for it.
Don't get me wrong the food is great the price is reasonable but currently the service is lacking. Hopefully the guy takes this to heart and hires...
Read moreEdit: I have returned to try the nigiri. And I can now confirm that this is the best sushi spot in Groton and New London. Don't go to Sushi Kawa, don't go to Kyoto Steakhouse. This is it. Eating the nigiri allows one to truly taste the fish as it is not covered by sauces like spicy mayo or doused in soy sauce. The fish freshness here is better than all the sushi places around here; no competition.
Good sushi. The rice was soft and at a good temperature. The quality of fish in the rolls was not bad. They have both traditional simple rolls and more americanized ones. I have eaten at many sushi restaurants/omakases in NY and Philly. And I can say that this place is not bad at all. It is definitely the best sushi you can get in Groton. I wouldn't go anywhere else for sushi around the area than here. Will be returning to...
